Luke 6:12-36 - The Sermon on the Plain (Blessings & Woes; Loving your Enemies) | 03.03.24 Weekend Message
This week at CrossWalk Church in Phoenix we will continue Investigating Jesus as we walk through the gospel of Luke. This week we examine Jesus' teaching about blessings and woes and love.
At first glance, there seems to be no rhyme or reason in Jesus' thought process.
First, he chooses 12 leaders/disciples/apostles to be his closest confidants who have an underwhelming resume'. At best, you could call these men "average."
But when you get to Jesus' teaching, that's where he really seems to lose it. Who are the blest people in Jesus' kingdom?
- The poor
- The hungry
- The crying
- The insulted
- The hated
Who are the cursed in Jesus kingdom?
- The rich
- The well-fed
- The laughing
- Those who are praised
If that's the way Jesus' kingdom works, would you want to be part of it?
A quick warning, just about everything you hear this weekend will go against conventional wisdom. Jesus might sound like he's crazy, and maybe he is - at least a little bit. But if he's crazy, it's crazy like a fox.
Jesus encourages us to abandon our normal way of thinking that gets us into the messes and fights and arguments of this world. Instead, he wants us to follow God's pattern of love and patience and mercy.
