Luke 7:18-50 - Jesus Dispels Doubts and Forgives Sins | 04.07.24 Weekend Message
Expectations. We all have them. We expect certain things from our spouse or significant other. Most people expect their job to give them certain things. When we go on vacation we expect to have a good time...well, most of the time :)
But, what happens when our expectations don't line up with reality?
The difference between our expectations and our perceived reality is the amount of emotional pain (or joy...if our expectations are exceeded) we experience.
Here's the truth. You expect certain things from Jesus. What are they? And, do they line up with what he promises you in his Word?
Often we expect God to do what pleases us or what we think is best. And if he doesn't meet our expectations we become disenchanted and disappointed with him.
So, what can we truly expect from God?
This weekend at CrossWalk Church, we will continue Investigating Jesus as we walk through the gospel of Luke; and we'll see how Jesus doesn't always do what pleases us, but he does always do what we truly need.
What we truly need is a Savior. And what God promises to deliver each day to us is forgiveness, mercy, acceptance and love.
And, when we see our need for those things and see those things fulfilled in Jesus, we start doing things that we never expected we could do. We give generously. We love deeply. We forgive whole-heartedly.
Here's what Jesus said about a woman who wasn't expecting his grace, but received it when she needed it the most: "Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.” Luke 7:47, NIV
