In the period before the civil war a new form of entertainment flashed across the American scene, the Minstrel Show. This is the story of the first of the great Minstrels, Daniel Decatur Emmett who donned burnt cork and sang his way in to the heart of a nation with his immortal song Dixie which he composed in 1859.
