Brigid O’Shaunessy under the name of Miss Wanderlee had employed private detective Sam Spade to locate her sister who had run off with a guy named Floyd Thursby. Spade’s partner Miles Archer was killed whilst trailing him and then Spade discovers that Miss Wanderlee is not who she claimed she was but one of many dubious characters Sam Spade becomes mixed up with all of whom are seeking a black statue of a Maltese Falcon.
