Luxury. Culture. Capital. episodes

  • Welcome to Luxury Culture Capital

What makes a brand, object, place, or person culturally powerful?

Luxury Culture Capital is a podcast of field notes on status, desire, and cultural power — told through brands, objects, spaces, social rituals, and the occasional rabbit hole.

In this introduction, I share the worldview behind the publication, the questions I keep returning to, and why luxury so often turns out to be a conversation about something else: class, race, geography, power, or belonging.

Some episodes will begin with a brand. Others with a building, a hotel, a piece of jewelry, a campaign, a social ritual, or something I notice walking through Mexico City.

The point is not simply to admire luxury. It is to understand what it is doing, what it is signaling, and why people respond to it.

  • Luxury, Class, and the Architecture of Belonging

Before Frida Escobedo designed the new modern and contemporary art wing at The Met, she designed a five-story townhouse in Colonia Popotla, Mexico City—one of her early residential works.

I once lived there, and the house became an unexpected study in class, beauty, foreignness and belonging.

In this audio essay, I explore what the experience taught me about the social codes of Mexico City, the ways luxury lives in the psyche, and the question underneath it all: who gets to live inside beauty—and who decides?

Luxury Culture Capital explores why some brands, objects, places and people become culturally powerful through the lenses of brand strategy, cultural theory, status and desire.
