Publisher's Summary:
Ann Rule presents another collection of fascinating and disturbing true-crime stories - drawn from her real-life personal files - in this seventeenth volume in the #1 New York Times bestselling Crime Files series.
Three decades ago, Jackie Schut was considered one of the most prolific "baby sellers" in the country. She traveled all over the US, murdered women who had just borne babies, and then stole their infants. She is still imprisoned in the South.
A lovely, vibrant woman in San Antonio was found dead in a vacant lot. Her mother, a popular local realtor, never stopped looking for her killer. Just months ago, a truly unlikely suspect was found many states away. At last, the seemingly impossible case to solve had answers no one ever considered.
On Christmas Day three years ago, two grandparents, their son, his wife, their two small boys, their daughter, and her boyfriend gathered to celebrate the holiday. For reasons that are still almost impossible to contemplate, the sister and her boyfriend shot and killed everyone in the room.
In these chilling true stories, Ann Rule reveals the dark underside of the American family unit - together and torn apart. Her unforgettable accounts will intrigue you, and once again prove the obvious: that Rule is "America's best true-crime writer" (Kirkus Reviews).

Lying in wait: Ann Rule's True crime stories--a good collection of stories.
Good set of stories. Anne Rule has done it again. Easy to read, but sad. I've been an Ann Rule fan for a long time, and (fortunately or unfortunately) I've learned alot about trusting (and not trusting) people from Ann's stories. Her books have made me a much safer and alert person.
ANN RULE: LYING IN WAIT
I can't believe she passed away, have been reading her books for 20 years or more. She was such a creative talented lady, as soon as I knew she had a new book being released I ordered it. What will I do now?
My heart goes out to her family, she will be missed by all who loved her. Will be lost without her wonderful talent..
Ann Rule RULES!
I read anything by Ms Rule. I like her stories and books. I can count on her to write entertaining true crime. Some of the stories in this book took place years ago, some more recent. I like the more recent stories, and I am always amazed at the evil stupidity of the perps. Rule always gives credit to the officers involved in the cases. That's a very nice thing for her to do. Without our law enforcement acting on our behalf and always protecting and serving the public, what would we do as a society? Now the reason I gave this book only 3 stars is because it's not as entertaining as the other books in her series, but that is just my opinion. If you're a fan, you'll want to read this book. If this is your first time reading a book by Rule, start with her book on Ted Bundy. That book is truly mesmerizing.
Captivating! Ann RULES
Ann Rule knocked it out of the ballpark again. She is the Queen of true crime. I especially enjoy her volumes, which include multiple stories.
but also some pretty new ones
The 17th volume of Ann Rule's true crime files has some older case stories in it, but also some pretty new ones. I was especially taken with the first story in the volume, about a woman who was stealing infants and at the same time, murdering their mothers.
