  • #44: Lyme Expert - Dr. Zach Bush - CEO, Restore For Life
Dr. Bush was studying to be an engineer when a time volunteering at the Philippines ignited his passion for medicine. Zach Bush completed pre-med training and his baccalaureate degree in Spanish at the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1997 and completed medical school in 2002 at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver.
Following medical school he and his family moved to Charlottesville, VA to complete internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Virginia. In recognition of his clinical excellence and leadership, Dr Bush was selected to serve an additional year as Chief Resident in 2005-2006, which furthered his passion for teaching.
During the course of his eight years of medical practice at UVA Dr Bush developed an increasingly skeptical view on pharmaceutical studies and their purported clinical outcomes, and realized that his patients were far more motivated to pursue real health and healing than the medical community was giving them credit for. Since 2009 Dr Bush and his colleagues at Revolution Health have been forging a comprehensive model for human health and healing.

  • #42: Lyme Ninja – Alison Marchese Perch - Lymie Moms Unite
Alison Perch was very young when she contracted Lyme. As a child she started suffering from migraines and by the time she was in 7th grade her neurological symptoms forced her out of school. For years she had a laundry list of physical and neurological symptoms that kept getting worse throughout her teens and into her 20s.
She was 27 when she was finally diagnosed with Lyme Disease. And spent years after that getting treatment, getting married, herxing, relapsing, and getting better again. After she had gotten married she wanted to start a family, but was worried about transmitting the disease to her child. A family member volunteered to be a surrogate, and she was able to have a baby girl.
However her Lyme literate doctor wanted to test her child just in case, and 14 days after she was born, her daughter tested positive for Lyme. The news that her daughter had tested positive for lyme, the memory of what her mother had been through supporting her, and her experience with more general Lyme support groups inspired her to create a Lymiemom social media group, which can be found on Facebook and twitter.
She wanted to help provide support for mothers with Lyme disease, mothers of children with lyme disease, and people in treatment who want to start a family. On Mother’s Day she was interviewed about Lyme Disease on a local fox news channel near Philadelphia, and continually works to raise awareness and provide support for people with Lyme disease.

  • #40: Lyme Ninja - Alix Mayer - SpiroChicks Blog
Alix Mayer earned an MBA at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern, and spent nearly a decade in research and strategy for Fortune 100 companies.
She spent 18 years with undiagnosed Lyme Disease. Throughout the 1990s, Alix had been managing strange symptoms until a series of travel vaccinations left her severely disabled. She was sleeping for 15-16 hours a day, and suffered from neurological effects that greatly reduced her comprehension abilities.
She was forced to leave her job as a global research manager for Apple, Inc in 1996 to focus on her health. In 1999, before she received her Lyme diagnosis, she switched over to a gluten free diet, which made a large portion of her symptoms vanish. From that point on, she says “I turned my research lens from corporate research to personal health, and launched Med Nauseam to stop bugging my friends and family with emails about natural health.”
Today she is a health coach and writer, an editor for Med Nauseaum and SpiroChicks, and a non-profit development consultant.

  • #39: Lyme Expert - Scott Forsgren - The Better Health Guy
Scott’s journey to becoming the 'better health guy’ began in 1997 when he became violently ill. He says on his website "Overnight, my body was ravaged by an unknown illness.” After many months of baffling doctors, he was diagnosed with parasitic infections, Candida, leaky gut syndrome and severe food allergies.
Recovering took two years of working constantly with his doctor and by 2000 his symptoms were gone Everything seemed to be going well for him until 2004 when he regained his original symptoms as well as severe burning sensations in his limbs and muscle twitches throughout his body. Going to yet another doctor, who put him on the same course of treatment that had helped him previously. It had cyclical effects, after the treatment ended, his symptoms reappeared.
In 2005, he found a treatment to help with his severe food allergies, and the practitioner recommended he get tested for Lyme disease. His Western Blot tested positive for Lyme Disease and shortly thereafter he went to a Lyme literate doctor and tested positive for Borrelia burgdorferi, Bartonella, Babesia, and Ehrlichia.
