Daly Dose of Hoops founder Jaden Daly joins the MAAC Hoops Shootaround Podcast with Ian Sacks to preview the upcoming MAAC basketball season. Jaden reviews Iona being tabbed as the unanimous favorite on the men's side, the impact of transfers on the league, and who he thinks can surprise some people this season. The season kicks off Nov. 9.
Iona won a record 13th title on the men’s side with a 60-51 victory over Fairfield. The Gaels have won the title in each of the last five completed tournaments. Marist dominated Saint Peter’s 69-30 to claim its record 11th championship. The Red Foxes are back on top for the first time in seven years. Asante Gist and Willow Duffell were named the most outstanding players.
In the men’s bracket, Iona became the first No. 9 seed to reach the championship game after a win over No. 5 Niagara. The Gaels will face No. 7 Fairfield after the Stags edged third-seeded Saint Peter’s. On the women’s end, top-seed Marist moved past No. 4 Fairfield, and No. 3 Saint Peter’s defeated No. 7 Rider to set up a meeting of the two Coach of the Year award winners. The Peacocks are in the title game for the first time since 2002.
Siena’s Manny Camper and Quinnipiac’s Mackenzie DeWees took home the Player of the Year honors. The men’s quarterfinals featured three upsets as Saint Peter’s was the only higher seed to advance. In the women’s bracket, Rider stunned Quinnipiac.
On the men’s side, Fairfield survived an overtime thriller against Manhattan. No. 11 Rider upset Canisius. Iona cruised to a victory over Quinnipiac. For the women, Rider defeated Monmouth in a low-scoring affair. Siena topped Niagara to advance as well.

The Monmouth men swept Rider to close the regular season and to move into a tie with Siena atop the standings. The Hawks have claimed at least a share of the regular-season crown three times in the last six years. The Saint Peter’s women topped No. 1 Marist in the regular-season finale. The Peacocks finished 10-9 and secured a third-place finish, their best since 2001-02. A recap of these games and the rest of the action around the league.
Welcome to March! As we close in on the MAAC Tournament, the Marist men claimed their best finish since 2007 after a sweep of Quinnipiac. The Niagara women split with Quinnipiac and picked up its first victory over the Bobcats.
Iona claimed two victories over Monmouth in the marquee men’s series. Siena used late-game heroics to avoid a sweep at Niagara. Meanwhile, the Siena women pulled off an upset of Quinnipiac. Fairfield held Monmouth to 2 points in the first half and 21 points for the game. Plus, both Stag teams say goodbye to Alumni Hall.
The Iona men’s and women’s teams as well as the Canisius men played their first games in more than 40 days. The men’s side featured three series, and the women had a full slate of five series.
