You bought the mattress. You bought the wedge pillow. You even sleep with a pillow jammed between your knees right now, and your hip still wakes you up at 2am. If you have spent real money trying to fix this in bed and nothing has worked, this episode explains why. It is not your mattress and it is not your sleep position. There is a specific mechanical reason your hip flares up the moment you lie down, and once you understand it, the fix becomes obvious.
In this episode, I'm going to show you why the usual sleep fixes don't hold, why the pillow between your knees isn't doing what you think it's doing, and what's actually waking you up in the middle of the night.
⏱️ TIMESTAMPS
0:00 Why Your Hip Hurts at Night — Even With a Pillow Between Your Knees
0:35 The daytime pinch that becomes nighttime pain
1:04 Why the mattress gets blamed for hip pain
1:39 What the knee pillow actually does to your hip joint
2:46 The forward drift your pillow can't fix
3:47 Why hip pain feels so much worse at night
4:34 My own story with pelvis injury and sleepless nights
5:26 Questions that reveal what's really driving your night pain
6:09 Why your good side hip starts hurting too
6:58 What actually fixes hip pain at night
❓ QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Why does my hip hurt more at night than during the day?
During the day your body uses small movement adjustments to avoid loading the sore hip fully. At night those escape routes disappear, so the irritation that built up all day finally becomes noticeable and keeps you from staying asleep.
Does a pillow between the knees actually fix hip pain?
A knee pillow only prevents your top leg from dropping sideways, but it does nothing to stop your femur from rolling forward in the socket. That forward drift is usually the real source of the ache, so the pillow only solves half the problem and the pain keeps returning.
Why has my good hip started hurting too?
Your pelvis controls both hips together, not separately, so weakened stabilizing muscles usually affect both sides at once. One hip typically gets loud first, while the other has been quietly drifting the same way all along, which is why it eventually starts hurting too.

Your x-ray shows hip osteoarthritis and now every doctor is telling you the same thing. Wait until it gets bad enough for surgery. But that word "degenerative" does not mean what you think it means, and your scan cannot actually predict what happens next. Two people can have the exact same x-ray and live completely different lives, one in constant pain and one barely noticing it. That difference is not on the scan. It is in how the hip is actually being used every day.
In this episode, I'm going to break down what an x-ray really tells you about hip arthritis, why the damage does not have to keep progressing, and how to test your own hip tonight to find out what is really driving your pain.
TIMESTAMPS
0:00 Your X-Ray Says Hip Arthritis. Now What?
0:35 Can hip arthritis stop getting worse?
1:19 Why the deep hip rotators take the blame
2:39 Does degenerative always mean it gets worse?
4:07 My own hip has osteoarthritis too
5:29 Why x-rays don't explain your pain
7:00 Self test for hip arthritis at home
7:34 Jennifer's story: same scan, no more pain
8:39 What actually decides your hip's future
QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Q: Can hip osteoarthritis get better without surgery?
A: Yes. The joint damage already on your x-ray usually will not disappear, but the pressure causing new damage can be corrected by fixing how your muscles load the joint. Many women reduce pain significantly without surgery once that imbalance is addressed, and some stop pain almost entirely even with the same scan results.
Q: Does an x-ray showing hip arthritis mean my pain will only get worse?
A: No. An x-ray only shows changes that already happened, not what will happen next. Pain and progression depend on how the hip is loaded going forward, not on the scan itself, which is why some people improve dramatically after correcting their movement patterns.
Q: Why do some people have severe arthritis on x-ray with little pain, while others hurt constantly?
A: It comes down to muscle imbalance, not the amount of arthritis visible on the scan. When small deep hip muscles overwork to stabilize a joint that bigger muscles should be supporting, that creates the pinching and pain, regardless of what the x-ray shows. Correcting that imbalance is often what changes the pain, not the arthritis itself.

Before you give up hiking because of your hip, there is something you need to understand first. Most women who stop hiking do it for a reason that is not actually true. The trail is not the problem. It is exposing a breakdown that flat ground has been hiding all along.
In this episode, I'm going to explain why hip pain shows up on hills and uneven trails but not on flat ground, and walk you through a simple test you can do tonight to find out what is actually driving it.
⏱️ TIMESTAMPS

0:36 The real cost of giving up hiking
1:36 Why flat ground hides the problem
2:25 Why doctors tell you to rest and reduce activity

6:01 Why the uphill and downhill both matter
8:19 The one fix that changes everything
9:20 The stair test you can do tonight 11:03 What the staircase test reveals about your trail pain
❓ QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Why does my hip hurt on hikes but not on flat ground?
Flat, predictable ground lets your body compensate and hide a hip positioning problem that has been building for a long time. Hills and uneven steps demand more from the hip stabilizers and femur positioning, so the breakdown that was already there finally shows up and forces you to notice it.
Should I stop hiking if my hip hurts on the trail?
Not automatically. If pain settles back to your baseline within 24 hours and flat walking is manageable, this is usually a correctable positioning and stability issue, not a reason to quit hiking for good. Giving up the trail permanently often means losing progress you never had to lose.
How do I know if my hip pain is a positioning problem or a stability problem?
Try walking up and down a few stairs slowly and pay close attention to where you feel it. Pinching or compression at the front of the hip points to femoral positioning, while a pelvis that drops, wobbles, or feels unsteady points to a stability issue instead. Knowing which one you are dealing with changes exactly how you should be training and correcting it.

Your back pain and hip pain are not two separate problems. They are one problem showing up in two places. Treat one and the other flares back up. Treat that one and the first one comes right back.
In this video, I'm going to show you why your back and hip pain share the exact same root cause, how to tell if this applies to you, and the simple 60 second test you can do at home to check your own pelvis.
⏱️ TIMESTAMPS
0:00 Why back pain and hip pain are actually one problem
0:45 Why doctors treat back pain and hip pain as separate issues
1:36 How pelvis position triggers back and hip pain together
2:33 Why anterior pelvic tilt can be hidden from view
3:30 Daily signs your pelvis is causing both pain sites
4:16 Self-check questions: is this your pattern?
6:11 The real root cause behind combined back and hip pain
7:32 Real client case: pain resolved in 5 weeks
8:34 Why this at-home test reveals what exercises can't
9:15 The simple at-home test, step by step
❓ QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Q: Why do back pain and hip pain happen at the same time?
A: Back pain and hip pain that show up together usually come from one shared cause, the pelvis tipping forward into an anterior tilt combined with weak pelvic control. This position stresses the lower back with every step and pushes the hip joint forward in its socket at the same time, creating two pain sites from one problem.
Q: How do I know if my pelvis is causing my back and hip pain?
A: Stand on one leg and watch what happens. If your pelvis drops on one side, rotates, or you have to lean your whole trunk to stay balanced, your pelvis is losing control during movement. That loss of control is a common driver of combined back and hip pain.
Q: Will stretching fix back and hip pain that happen together?
A: Stretching rarely fixes this combination because tightness is not the actual cause. The real driver is pelvis position and control, so lasting relief comes from correcting how the pelvis holds steady during movement, not from stretching the muscles around it.

Your hip pain is not random. It follows a pattern you haven't learned to track yet. Most people are looking at the wrong day.
In this episode, I'm going to show you the 48-72 hour accumulation window that drives every flare-up, why walking is harder on your hip than any other daily activity, what pelvis instability is doing inside the joint with every step, and the correction that creates lasting relief instead of temporary quiet.
⏱️ TIMESTAMPS
00:00 Why hip pain is never actually random
00:50 Why looking at the day of the flare misses the real cause
01:13 The 48-72 hour window before every flare-up
01:43 Why walking puts more demand on your hip than you think
03:38 Self-check: two questions to spot your pattern
04:26 Why treatments haven't created lasting relief
05:43 Strength vs. coordination: the critical difference
07:23 What to do tonight: map your last 3 flare-ups
08:16 The real fix: correct pelvis movement, not just fewer triggers
❓ QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Q: Why does my hip pain seem to appear with no obvious cause?
A: Hip pain almost never comes from what you did the day it appeared. It builds over the 48 to 72 hours before the flare through accumulated activity like walking and standing that continuously stresses an unstable pelvis. (01:13)
Q: Why does my hip pain flare up when I walk?
A: Walking is a single-leg activity that requires your pelvis to stay level and stable with every step. When pelvis instability is present, the ball shifts in the socket with each stride, loading the surrounding tissue until it reaches a breaking point. (01:43)
Q: Why haven't my hip pain treatments worked long term?
A: Most treatments address the inflamed tissue but not the unstable pelvis that keeps driving the inflammation. The hip calms down temporarily, but without correcting the movement pattern, the same loading cycle continues and flares keep coming back. (04:26)

You were active, you were fine, and then somewhere in the last few years the hip that never bothered you just did. And the story you got was some version of: this is what happens when hormones change.
It wasn't hormones. The timing just lined up. Here's what was actually going on.
In this episode, I'm going to show you the real underlying cause of your hip pain, why menopause made it impossible to ignore, and what needs to happen to finally get your hip to settle down for good.

2:27 Why HRT and anti-inflammatories help but the pain keeps coming back
2:53 What is actually creating load on your hip joint with every single step
3:44 Four self-check questions to see if this is driving your pain right now
4:56 The real root cause: pelvic control and how your body is actually moving
5:46 Jennifer's case: traditional PT and injections failed, until this changed
6:13 Why treatment that does not change your movement pattern never sticks
7:08 The 20-second single-leg test that shows what your hip is actually doing
❓ QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Did menopause cause my hip pain?
Menopause did not create hip pain. Estrogen acted as a natural anti-inflammatory for decades, and when levels dropped during menopause, it removed the protection that had been keeping an underlying problem quiet. The problem was already there.
Why do HRT and anti-inflammatories help my hip for a while but then stop working?
HRT and anti-inflammatories reduce inflammation and lower pain sensitivity, but they do not change how your body moves or how load is distributed through your hip joint. Every step still sends the same stress through the same structures, so the pain returns.
What is actually causing chronic hip pain in women around menopause?
The most common cause is the pelvis being stuck in a position that puts constant pressure on the hip joint, or the muscles responsible for controlling pelvic movement no longer doing their job. When that happens, the hip absorbs force it was never designed to handle on its own.

If you have been told you need hip surgery, there are five questions you need to ask yourself before you agree to anything. Most of the women I work with after hip surgery are still in pain, still limited, and still asking why. The answer is almost always the same: nobody helped them understand what surgery could and could not fix before they signed the consent form.
Surgery repairs structure. It does not fix the pelvis position, the movement patterns, or the muscle imbalances that damaged the joint in the first place. If those things are still in your body when you come out of the operating room, the damage goes somewhere else.
In this episode, I'm going to walk you through five specific questions that will tell you whether surgery is the right move, or whether you have options you have not yet tried.
⏱️ TIMESTAMPS
0:00 If Your Doctor Said You Need Hip Surgery, Watch This Next
0:25 Question 1: Do you know what caused the damage, not just what the scan shows?
1:45 Question 2: Has anyone actually assessed how your body moves?
4:36 Question 3: Did your conservative treatment target the cause or manage symptoms?
6:43 Question 4: What will surgery give you back and what will it not?
9:25 Question 5: What happens to the rest of your body if the cause is not corrected?
❓ QUESTIONS ANSWERED
How do I know if I really need hip surgery?
Before agreeing to surgery, you need to understand the cause of the damage, not just what the scan shows. If no practitioner has assessed how your body actually moves during walking and loading, you do not yet have the full picture needed to make that decision.
Can hip pain be treated without surgery?
In many cases, yes, if the root cause involves muscle imbalances and movement patterns that have never been properly assessed or corrected. Standard PT often targets symptoms rather than root cause, which is why the pain comes back. Working with a specialist who assesses your full movement system can resolve pain that has been written off as surgical.
What does hip surgery actually fix?
Surgery repairs the structural damage shown on the scan. It cannot retrain your muscles, correct movement patterns, or address the pelvis and loading mechanics that caused the damage. Getting cleared by your surgeon and getting your full function back are two very different things that require different plans.

The pinching started as something small. You noticed it when putting your socks on, then climbing stairs, then lifting your knee to your chest. Now it shows up just from sitting.
Most people try stretching, mobility work, foam rolling. It feels better for a moment and then the pinch returns and gets worse. The reason is the same every time: stretching is not addressing what is actually wrong.
In this episode, I'm going to show you what is actually causing the pinching and groin pain in your hip, why stretching makes it worse over time, and what needs to change first before any exercise approach will hold.

7:03 - What Needs to Happen Before Any Strengthening or Stretching
9:07 - A Simple At-Home Test to Try Before Your Next Stretch
❓ QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Why does stretching feel good for hip pinching but never actually fix it?
Stretching temporarily unloads the front of the hip joint, which reduces tension for a short time. But it doesn't change the underlying problem: the femur is sitting too far forward in the socket, or the pelvis is in a tilt that causes the bones to contact each other sooner during movement. The moment you go back to walking, sitting, or climbing stairs, the positioning problem is still there and the pinch returns.
What actually causes pinching pain in the hip and groin?
Pinching groin pain is usually caused by the femur sitting too far forward in the socket, or by an anterior pelvic tilt that causes the hip bones to contact each other sooner during movement. This is a positioning and stability problem, not a tightness problem, which is why stretching alone rarely resolves it.
How do you fix pinching hip pain without just stretching more?
The real fix starts with stabilizing the pelvis and restoring proper femur position in the socket, not pulling on the hip flexors. Once the alignment is improved, the hip bones stop contacting each other too early and the pinching decreases. This is why the approach works differently from stretching or standard glute strengthening, because it addresses the actual mechanical cause.

Your doctor said keep walking. Your PT said keep walking. So you kept walking, and your hip kept getting worse. That is not a coincidence. Walking is not automatically therapeutic for hip pain, and for a specific group of women, following that advice is keeping them stuck.
In this episode, I'm going to show you why walking more isn't always the answer, what your body is actually telling you when your hip flares up after a walk, and what needs to happen first before walking can feel smooth and normal again.

5:17 What a smarter hip loading strategy actually looks like
6:18 Why rest alone will never fix chronic hip pain
7:45 The overnight tracking method that changes everything
9:17 When walking finally starts to feel smooth and natural again
❓ QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Q: Why does my hip hurt after walking but not during the walk?
A: Hip joints can be overloaded during activity without triggering pain in the moment. The inflammatory response often shows up hours later or the next morning, which is why women feel fine during the walk but worse by evening.
Q: Should I rest or keep walking if I have chronic hip pain?
A: Neither pure rest nor pushing through more walking addresses the root cause. Rest can calm irritation temporarily, but it does not fix the reason the irritation keeps returning. The goal is a smarter loading strategy that works with the joint rather than against it.
Q: Why are my first steps after sitting so painful every morning?
A: Pain or stiffness in the first 10 to 20 steps after resting is a signal the joint was already overloaded before you stopped. It is information about your current joint tolerance, not a sign of permanent damage.

Your hip bursitis came back. You probably already knew it would. Injections, PT, stretching, and glute exercises gave you temporary relief. Then life resumed and the pain came right back with it.
That is not because your body is broken. It is because the actual problem was never correctly identified or corrected.

9:00 How Hormones Factor In (And What They Cannot Fix Alone)
9:36 The Lunge Test: Check Your Own Mechanics Today
❓ QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Why does hip bursitis keep coming back after injections or rest?
Injections quiet the inflammation temporarily, but the mechanical overload that caused it is still there. The moment the hip gets loaded again, symptoms return because nothing about the loading pattern has changed.
Is hip bursitis the same as greater trochanteric pain syndrome?
Not exactly. Most lateral hip pain is now reclassified as greater trochanteric pain syndrome because the pain typically comes from overloaded tendons, not the bursa. The bursa can be inflamed, but that is a symptom of a loading problem, not the source of it.
Can hip bursitis heal without cortisone injections or surgery?
Yes, in most cases. When the loading mechanics driving the irritation are corrected, the hip finally has a chance to calm down naturally. That means addressing pelvis positioning, functional glute stability, and reloading the outer hip structures in the right sequence.
