Episode 29: Freeform From the Chaos

The Mad Ghoul is back in the basement after a noisy couple of weeks. Life has been upside down, schedules have been wrecked, and the crates have been calling. So this week there is no theme, no concept, no structure. Just a freeform night built from tracks the Ghoul has not dusted off in far too long.

The show opens with a classic cue from the original Nightmare on Elm Street, then drifts into a mix of forgotten electronic experiments, cosmic festival relics, fuzz drenched rock, and a few deep cuts from scenes that never got their proper due. Think of it like pulling up a chair while the Ghoul drags out an old crate and says, “Here. Let me play you something I used to love.”

The selections range from digital fever dreams to psychedelic world grooves to sharp alternative blasts and late night lounge gems. A brand new electro track also sneaks into the set as a reminder that the future is still humming along in the wires.

The show closes with Trent, as it should. And yes, the Ghoul shares some excitement about a rare Rock and Roll Hall of Fame signed piece that finally made its way into the collection.

Episode 28 - Electronic Body Music (EBM) Prevails.....

We crack the night with Aminadav Aloni’s “The Awakening” from the lost 1974 film Once... Slow build... Candles up... Room on edge... The ritual starts.

From there the set follows the bloodstream into EBM and industrial territory. Detroit crate finds slide into Wax Trax lore. City Club memories bubble up with that familiar fog and concrete heat. It is the lineage in motion, not a museum tour. Tight sequences... Cold synths... Human sweat.

Shapeshifters returns with an industrial bruiser facing a disco classic. You decide which version takes the crown. We also resurface a cornerstone track from a Vancouver powerhouse and let it throb the floor the way it used to at 2 a.m. The close is an early-era NIN mix that holds the tempo while the lights fall, perfect for the last slow walk to the door.

From the gothic scores of Midnight Syndicate and Nox Arcana, to the unsettling chaos of Goblin and the stripped-down menace of John Carpenter, to the underground realms of Lustmord, Coil, and Aphex Twin—we explore how audio creates atmosphere, tension, and terror.

We’ll also step inside the Haunted Mansion at Walt Disney World, breaking down how a single theme—“Grim Grinning Ghosts”—mutates into dirges, waltzes, whispers, and sing-alongs across the ride. It’s the perfect example of why sound is the true heartbeat of a haunt.

This one’s loaded with history, tracks, and personal stories from years of living inside this scene. And don’t worry—the night doesn’t end here. I’ll close things out with Nine Inch Nails before playing the entire Haunted Mansion ride-through in full.

Episode 21 – Mad Ghoul Radio

The veil is thinning, fiends… Episode 21 eases us into the pre-Halloween season with a slow burn of atmosphere, heavy vibes, and plenty of haunted basement energy. Robb reflects on the weight of real-life horrors versus the ritual of horror films and soundtracks that let us reset, then dives headfirst into spooky season.

This episode features a deep spotlight on Night of the Demons (1988)—from its infamous animated intro and Dennis Michael Tenney’s synth-driven score to the sequels, the 2009 remake, and even a few personal connections with the cast and crew. From there, the journey moves through gothic grooves and doom-soaked anthems, with detours into cult favorites and modern darkness, carrying listeners deeper into September’s shadow.

Robb also shares thoughts on the brand-new TRON: Ares score by Nine Inch Nails, with an early review from a promo listen, before closing the night with a perfect track to seal the mood.

Episode 3 – The Witching Hour

Welcome… to Mad Ghoul Macabre. Here, the night has no mercy. Here, the shadows breathe. Salem, 1692—a town devoured by hysteria, where whispers killed and witches were born.

For me, witches come second only to zombies in the hierarchy of horror obsessions, and this episode is proof of that. From Puritan paranoia to European nightmares, folk horror to modern dread, we’ll wander through some of the most unsettling witch imagery and sound ever put to film.

Expect ritual drones, occult hymns, and scores that feel like they were never meant to be heard outside the circle. This isn’t broomsticks and pointy hats—it’s witches as tragedy, symbol, and rebellion.

It’s also officially haunt season, which means Mad Ghoul Macabre is sinking even deeper into the shadows. Consider this the opening of the circle… and maybe just the beginning of our witching hour.
