What's the point of high #fantasy without magic? If you want some really good historical fantasy, go read the profile of Andrew Carnegie, or Stalin. Those are fantastical enough–it's horrifying to see all the mistakes that caused Stalin to be the person that affected the world the way he did. 

Lies of Locke Lamora. Game of Thrones. The film adaptation of Lord of the Rings. If you're going to do high fantasy, you've got to commit with all the bells and whistles. We want more fantasy with our fantasy!
