In addition to mad scientist, entrepreneur, and mother of two, Dr. Ming is a professional speaker that flies all over the world to give keynotes and briefings to organizations from Africa to Thailand to Iceland. Today we ask her (off the cuff, of course) to tell us what contributes to a fulfilling talk experience, both for her and for her audience.

In our recent episode on AI and civil rights, we propose data audits, data trusts, and Fringe Division-esque institutions to help establish a balance of power in an age where a select few control and reaps nearly all of the benefits of AI technology. Today on Mad Science Solves we ask Vivienne if there is a way for these tools to both protect our civil rights while also working in the best interest of those same AI plutocrats.

What's the point of high #fantasy without magic? If you want some really good historical fantasy, go read the profile of Andrew Carnegie, or Stalin. Those are fantastical enough–it's horrifying to see all the mistakes that caused Stalin to be the person that affected the world the way he did.
Lies of Locke Lamora. Game of Thrones. The film adaptation of Lord of the Rings. If you're going to do high fantasy, you've got to commit with all the bells and whistles. We want more fantasy with our fantasy!
(Disclaimer: Vivienne has only read the first third of The Lies of Locke Lamora. It was just a jumping off point for this conversation. Kat is convinced that she would like the book a lot if she finished it.)

What if this was a sci-fi story and we could re-run reality into alternate universes in which some of the entrepreneurs we can already identify were Queer? We could then find realities that best explain the data we already have.
Today on MSS we discuss how the Index accounts for hidden entrepreneurs that are already having an impact–gay, refugee, disabled, and many others. We want to be able to understand how they are changing and creating in their communities, and how we can lift them in order to do even more.
Improve creative performance. Induce trust in diverse teams. Modulate attention and emotionality. It's all still you, but remixed in a different way. Brain synchrony research has started allowing us to make those subtle nudges and holds tremendous promise in education, innovation, and interpersonal communication.

While Covid-19 has killed nearly half a million people and crumbled economies around the world, there are still those that determine the virus to be a hoax, despite unrelenting evidence to the contrary. (Don't even get us started on the "politics" of wearing a mask.) Today we ask Dr. Ming to share her thoughts on the source of this mistrust in science and scientific institutions.

This week we launched the Inclusion Impact Index, a data driven tool aimed to provide insight into how Metros can best support female and Queer entrepreneurs in realizing their full potential.
Today we explore the Index's industry data: the unique petri dish of industries that are specific to each Metro. It turns out that not all industries are friendly for women (can you guess which ones?). How can we use that information to invest in a more inclusive economy?
Read our essay on the Index at https://socos.org/episode/inclusion-impact-index and explore this awesome tool yourself!
