MAD Knb? When was the last time you tried something new? Fear is a typical response when we are in unfamiliar situations. These circumstances usually make us feel anxious and vulnerable.
In this episode of MAD Talks podcast, our hosts Big J and Lord Jay engaged in yet another fun and lively conversation with our guest, Ate Chooky, a MAD Volunteer from Basilan, as she shares her story on how she stepped out of her comfort zone and explored the unknown to gain new experiences.
Ate Chooky’s first MAD Camp was in Zamboanga in 2017. She also joined other camps and conferences as she opened herself to more opportunities. She has also led different community projects and served as the Head of Volunteers for "Kapit-Mindanao", a digital fundraising campaign to assist the Minadanaoan communities in this time of pandemic.
Ate Chooky’s journey created new learnings and gave her life-changing experiences as she braved the unknown. Taking a leap of faith and engaging ourselves in the unfamiliar will broaden and give us a fresh perspective as we discover new things about ourselves and the people around us. Listen to this episode to learn more about how we can focus on progress and have fun in the unfamiliar.
MAD Knb?
Do you have those moments when you just feel like giving up and you spiral down in a whirlpool of hopelessness? In this episode of MAD Talks podcast, our guest Ate Minette, a MAD volunteer, shares a spark of hope with our hosts Big Jay and Catriona J, as she talks about the topic on “Hoping in the Midst of Everything.”
As what Ate Minette quoted from a musical, “Hope lives everywhere.” We may find ourselves in dark moments and get overwhelmed with all the things that are happening around us. What is important is to pause and reflect. Acknowledge that we may not have all the answers now; nevertheless, we could still find hope in the little things. Instead of banging yourself against a wall, move forward and walk through a door that is swinging wide open for you.

Is there anything that is holding you back from pursuing your goals? Perhaps a fear? A disability? In this episode of MAD Talks podcast, our hosts, Big Jay and Small J, exchange stories with our guest, Ate Yssa, a MAD Volunteer, on how her medical condition (Meningitis) did not hinder her from doing what she wants, most especially in helping other people through volunteerism. In fact, she’s currently an Engineer, who does research on renewable energy. She was a MAD Talks Speaker for MAD Zamboanga and MAD Ilocos in 2017. She was also an Assistant Team Leader for MAD Talks Zamboanga in 2018. Wow! What more can’t she do? This goes to prove that disability does not define a person’s life and will not stop anyone from doing good work. As what she said, “Ability counts rather than disability.” Props to Ate Yssa for inspiring other people to never hold back despite having a condition!
