Jerry Grillo, journalist and author of The Music and Mythocracy of Col. Bruce Hampton: A Basically True Biography is in the genie bottle tonight. Col. Bruce Hampton was a charismatic musical figure who launched and continued to influence the jam band genre over his fifty-plus years performing. Part bandleader, soul singer, storyteller, conjuror, poet, preacher, comedian, philosopher, and trickster, Col. Bruce actively sought out and dealt in the weird, wild underbelly of the American South. The Music and Mythocracy of Col. Bruce Hampton is neither a true biography in the Boswellian sense nor a work of cultural studies, although it combines elements of both. Even as biographer Jerry Grillo has investigated and pursued the facts, this life history of Col. Bruce reads like a novel—one full of amazing tales of a musical life lived on and off the road.

Totally psyched to have Joe Symes & The Loving Kind in Madame Perry's Salon!  Joe Symes, along with Colin White, founded the band. It was while attending a local gig that the latter suggested to the former the name the “Loving Kind:” something that had been buried in his subconscious after listening the R.E.M song Get Up. After a sip or two of beer, the two agreed, set to work, and following one line up change added bass player Alan Welsh. The music world now had a powerful, explosive and foot taping power trio on their hands. An act one spectator described as “sounding like nine people on stage, not a mere three.”

Like four other musicians who also called this major northwest city their home, they take great pride in the fact they churn out songs that are not only catchy, memorable, and instantly appealing, but cater to a wide range of people from all walks of life.

Know Your Crazy is an art book for women, by women. It features mixed media art created by Vivienne Boucherat, a visual artist and musician from London and was brought to life by Cindy daSilva, an artist manager out of New Jersey, and Rene Harbison, who heads up a production and consulting firm in Austin, Texas

We all have our own ‘crazy’, and we each internalize in our own way. We’ve made art come to life using Vivienne’s own little heady, mad women and we have presented it hopefully in a way that each one of you can relate to. Our intent was to make ‘crazy’ less crazy. We hope you’ll share with your friends and that you’ll have some fun, share a few laughs and perhaps shed a couple of tears, but most importantly know you are not alone. For all of our differences, we are all very much the same.
