What does it feel like to leave your home country and rebuild your identity somewhere new?
In Episode 5 of Mae’s Corner, I sit down with Kiwi (aka sodiumh0t), a DJ and creative who moved from China to the United States.
We talk about culture shock, finding community, and the journey of figuring out where you belong when you’re caught between two worlds.
A conversation about identity, friendship, creativity, and creating a home wherever you are.

Welcome to the Immigrant Daughter Series!
A series where I talk about the struggles, lessons, and funny contradictions of growing up as an immigrant daughter.
Did I basically live a Hannah Montana life, one foot in my family's culture and one foot in American culture? Maybe.
We'll talk about growing up too independent too fast, figuring things out on my own, being responsible for everything... while somehow still struggling to speak up for myself.
If you're an immigrant daughter, trust me, you're going to relate.
Girrrrl, let's get into it.
In this episode, Mae talks about moving to another country at just 8 years old. Did she survive? Yeah… but the real struggle was not being able to eat rice for breakfast at school 😂🍚
From culture shocks to feeling out of place, moving from the Philippines to Hawaii at a young age forced her to adapt fast. Looking back, those experiences shaped her into someone who can walk into unfamiliar spaces, adjust, connect, and keep going even when things feel uncomfortable.

In today’s episode, Mae opens up about the injury that hurt the most but ultimately changed her life and how she learned to turn pain into purpose. You’ll also see her unhealthy obsession with matcha… plus some health and big sis advice you probably don’t want to hear.
On today’s episode, Mae dedicates this one to her 20s, the version of her who was just trying to hold it together and act like she had it all figured out. She talks about what she wishes her 20-year-old self knew, but let’s keep it real...she wouldn’t be the baddie she is now if she didn’t go through a little hell to get here.

In this first episode, Mae introduces herself by oversharing immediately so you can get to know her way faster than necessary. Does she clearly explain what this podcast is about? Not really… but the vibes are there. She talks about who she is, where she’s from, and a bunch of thoughts that probably should’ve stayed in her notes app. There’s a Sip of the Week, a strong attempt to stay humble (it comes and goes), and just enough chaos to keep things interesting. It’s a little unorganized, very real, and honestly a warning of what’s to come. If you like random tangents, relatable overthinking, and laughing at your own problems, you’ll feel right at home.
