Gather round friends, It's time to talk format staples! This week we put the great new Core 19 set aside for a moment to begin our Commander staples series. Staples form the backbone of your collection for commander deckbuilding, and we'd often recommend picking up a staple or two whenever you have some spare dollars aside for Magic goods (instead of a booster for instance) as they'll serve you for a long time in a great deal of decks. We will tend to prioritise a budget focus for these staples for this reason as it really doesn't have to cost a great deal to make an impact at your next commander game. Where better to start than with some of the most broadly used of the staples, the colourless and artifacts. Join us as we run through some of the less well known and underated overperformers, as well as restatating the importance of some of the classics and important locked slots of your decklists - all through the lens of improving the performance of your next deck brew.
All this and of course the episode wouldn't be complete without ripping open some fresh packs irresponsibly! (For the record, save your next booster pack allowance for a commander staple, it's the sensible choice!)
