When showing people the Gauss Speedway, sometimes they ask how it works. I made this tiny, manually controlled version with LEDs to demonstrate.

The lit arrows show which traces are active, and which direction the current is flowing. Each button enables one of the four possible steps, so when you press them in sequence it moves the magnet, just like how a stepper motor works.
