Moving two slides with 25 3.175mm magnets.

First testing of a 5x5 1/8" magnet array on the finer pitch PCB with X and Y linear actuators. I'm using the electronics on a Guass Speedway to drive it, which means I can only control a single axis at a time at the moment. It can (just barely in the case of the Y axis) carry half of a microscope slide -- with the whole slide it could barely move at all, in the current configuration anyway.

Trying out some carbon sheets for their diagmagnetic properties. These are both of dubious provenance, and I suspect that at least in the case of the thick sheet, it is plain rather than pyrolytic graphite. I'm not able to see any sign of clear layers in the sheet.

When showing people the Gauss Speedway, sometimes they ask how it works. I made this tiny, manually controlled version with LEDs to demonstrate.

The lit arrows show which traces are active, and which direction the current is flowing. Each button enables one of the four possible steps, so when you press them in sequence it moves the magnet, just like how a stepper motor works.
