Having dealt out his woes against the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, the Lord Christ speaks more directly to his disciples. He draws a warning from the Pharisees -to beware the leaven of their hypocrisy-, makes a statement about the judgment -that all things will come to light-, and teaches a lesson to the disciples -to live in the light as true disciples of Christ-.

The psalmist is in deep and desperate distress. He cries out to God for help- it is an urgent, humble, upward, believing cry to the Lord, his salvation. It is the kind of cry we need when lost, when sinning, when tempted, when afflicted, when deserted or assaulted, and when dying.
