This episode's special food selection is from the annual Fasnacht holiday event in the preserved Swiss village of Helvetia, WV. Here's what we ordered:
Bratwurst sandwich with spicy mustard and sauerkraut, vegetarian chili, assorted potato donuts from Downstate Donuts, homemade traditional hosablatz pastry, ale and stout from Mountain State Brewing
This time, the Main Creeps are live! They are joined by their spouses Michael and Britt, for a special trip to Helvetia, WV for the Fasnacht celebration. We tried assorted snacks, watched a parade of folks in masks and costumes, and participated in a bonfire to signify the ending of winter. It's an interesting experience we highly recommend. Kelsey tried beer! "This place is a winter wonderland of delicious food and I'm here for it." - Matt
For this episode, Matt covers what was known as the Texarkana Phantom Killer and their spree of murders occurring in 1946 around Texarkana, Arkansas. He details how these killings relate to the movie The Town That Dreaded Sundown, and that the murders are unsolved to this day. The Creeps also share their thoughts on the name of the town itself.
The kids selling donuts at the event in Helvetia are raising money for the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center, which you can donate to by going to seaturtlehospital.org. You can also benefit the village by going to helvetiawv.com where you can plan a visit or donate directly to the Helvetia Restoration and Development Organization.
