Mom reads chapter 24 of "Forever Amber" and tells me all about it. I start off by saying that I'm feeling a little "eh" but we're both drinking homemade milkshakes (thanks, Mom!) so how "eh" can a girl be when I'm drinking a homemade milkshake?
Mom tells me all about chapter 24, which is all about Amber, Nan, and Tansy taking a trip to Tunbridge Wells, a resort spring outside of London. They meet up with an older, rather handsome gentleman named Mr. Samuel Dangerfield.
You know where this is going.
They split up at Tunbridge, but Nan tracks Mr. Dangerfield down and discovers that he is one of the most wealthy men in all of England. He has 14 kids, but no wife. Amber decides to set her sights on becoming the new Mrs. Dangerfield, but she runs into a couple young men who recognize her as an actor (UH OH!) from London. She denies that she is the same actor whom they recognize, because she doesn't want Samuel Dangerfield to think she's one of those "wenches" from the stage. He tells her that she should be more careful about "new acquaintances" despite the fact that he just met her on the road on the way to Tunbridge. He hints that these two young men are counterfeiters and they split. Samuel and Amber hit it off. He tells her that he's a self-made success, a merchant from London. He's amazed by her.
