we confess that we have sinned against you
in thought, word, and deed,
and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,
have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will,
to the glory of your Name. Amen.
Grant your faithful people, merciful Lord, pardon and peace; that we may be cleansed from all our sins, and serve you with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Lord, open our lips.

O God, make speed to save us.

O Lord, make haste to help us.

O come, let us sing to the Lord;*
let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving*
and raise a loud shout to him with psalms.
For the Lord is a great God,*
and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the caverns of the earth,*
and the heights of the hills are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it,*
and his hands have molded the dry land.
O come, let us worship and bow down,*
and kneel before the Lord our Maker.

1 In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge;
let me never be put to shame; *
in your righteousness deliver me.
2 Bow down your ear to me; *
make haste to rescue me.
2 Be my rock of refuge, *
a house of defense to save me.
3 For you are my rock and my fortress; *
and for the sake of your name you will lead me and guide me;
4 you draw me out of the net that they have hidden for me, *
for you are my protector.
5 Into your hands I commit my spirit; *
for you have redeemed me, O LORD, O God of truth.
6 I have hated those who regard worthless idols, *
but I trust in the LORD.
7 I will be glad and rejoice in your steadfast love,
for you have seen my affliction; *
you have known the distress of my soul;
8 you have not shut me up in the hand of the enemy; *
you have set my feet in a spacious place.
9 Have mercy on me, O LORD, for I am in distress;
my eye wastes away with grief; *
my soul and my body as well.
10 For my life is spent with sorrow, *
and my years with sighing;
10 my strength fails because of my iniquity, *
and my bones waste away.
11 I have become a reproach among all my enemies, *
but exceedingly so to my neighbors,
11 and an object of dread to my acquaintances; *
those who see me in the street flee from me.
12 I am utterly forgotten like a dead man, out of mind; *
I have become like a broken vessel.
13 For I have heard the slander of many, *
terror on every side;
13 as they conspire together against me, *
as they scheme to take my life.
14 But I trust in you, O LORD; *
I say, “You are my God.”
15 My time is in your hands;
rescue me from the hand of my enemies, *
and from those who persecute me.
16 Make your face to shine upon your servant; *
save me in your steadfast love.
17 Let me not be put to shame, O LORD, *
for I have called upon you;
17 let the wicked be put to shame; *
let them lie silently in Sheol.
18 Let the lying lips be put to silence,
which speak insolent things against the righteous, *
with pride and contempt.
19 Oh, how abundant is your goodness, *
which you have laid up for those who fear you,
19 which you have prepared for those who take refuge in you, *
in the sight of the sons of man.
20 You hide them in the cover of your presence *
from the plots of man;
20 you conceal them in your shelter *
from the strife of tongues.
21 Blessed be the LORD,
for he has shown me his marvelous kindness *
when I was in a besieged city.
22 For I had said in my alarm, *
“I am cut off from your sight;”
22 nevertheless you heard the voice of my pleas *
when I cried out to you for help.
23 O love the LORD, all you his saints.
For the LORD preserves those who are faithful, *
and plenteously repays the proud.
24 Be strong, and let your heart take courage, *
all you who hope in the LORD. †

Habakkuk 1
1 The oracle that Habakkuk the prophet saw.
2 O LORD, how long shall I cry for help,
and you will not hear?
Or cry to you “Violence!”
and you will not save?
3 Why do you make me see iniquity,
and why do you idly look at wrong?
Destruction and violence are before me;
strife and contention arise.
4 So the law is paralyzed,
and justice never goes forth.
For the wicked surround the righteous;
so justice goes forth perverted.
5 “Look among the nations, and see;
wonder and be astounded.
For I am doing a work in your days
that you would not believe if told.
6 For behold, I am raising up the Chaldeans,
that bitter and hasty nation,
who march through the breadth of the earth,
to seize dwellings not their own.
7 They are dreaded and fearsome;
their justice and dignity go forth from themselves.
8 Their horses are swifter than leopards,
more fierce than the evening wolves;
their horsemen press proudly on.
Their horsemen come from afar;
they fly like an eagle swift to devour.
9 They all come for violence,
all their faces forward.
They gather captives like sand.
10 At kings they scoff,
and at rulers they laugh.
They laugh at every fortress,
for they pile up earth and take it.
11 Then they sweep by like the wind and go on,
guilty men, whose own might is their god!”
12 Are you not from everlasting,
O LORD my God, my Holy One?
We shall not die.
O LORD, you have ordained them as a judgment,
and you, O Rock, have established them for reproof.
13 You who are of purer eyes than to see evil
and cannot look at wrong,
why do you idly look at traitors
and remain silent when the wicked swallows up
the man more righteous than he?
14 You make mankind like the fish of the sea,
like crawling things that have no ruler.
15 He brings all of them up with a hook;
he drags them out with his net;
he gathers them in his dragnet;
so he rejoices and is glad.
16 Therefore he sacrifices to his net
and makes offerings to his dragnet;
for by them he lives in luxury,
and his food is rich.
17 Is he then to keep on emptying his net
and mercilessly killing nations forever?

James 4
4 What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? 2 You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. 3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions. 4 You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. 5 Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”? 6 But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.
11 Do not speak evil against one another, brothers. The one who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. 12 There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?
13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”—14 yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. 15 Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” 16 As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. 17 So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.

the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only-begotten Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father,
who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
I acknowledge one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
I look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
