When Jesus’ sanity and authority are questioned, He responds by accusing them of blasphemy and calling those who do the will of God His true family.

There are three opposing forces in the midst of Jesus being on mission: the religious and political leaders, spiritual forces of darkness, the enemy force from within.

Jesus’ authority redefines our understanding of the Sabbath, and all of God’s law.

Jesus did not come to make sinners conform to religious rituals, but to make them altogether new.

Jesus wants sinners.

Seeing the authority of Jesus should increase the visibility of our faith, cause us to live in the freedom of overcoming grace, and convict us of our unbelief.

And a leper came to him, imploring him, and kneeling said to him, “If you will, you can make me clean.” Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand and touched him and said to him, “I will; be clean.” (1:40-41, ESV)

Jesus’ authority rightly observed will make us want to listen to His teaching, relinquish fear of the devil, and inspire genuine worship that spreads.

Jesus’ Kingdom has come and He is calling us to follow Him urgently and make disciples.

Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life in our place and endured every temptation to sin to make us beloved sons and daughters of God.
