Wikis have long been a place where humans collaborate to store and share knowledge. Their free-form, natural language structure makes them an ideal tool for capturing and retrieving information. But as AI agents powered by LLMs become more integrated into workflows, wikis are also evolving into knowledge bases for artificial intelligence.

This talk explored how wikis could become a shared space for both humans and AI agents. Just as wikis help humans organize knowledge, they could also serve as a place where AI agents persist new information—keeping it readable and useful for both people and machines. By bridging the gap between human and AI collaboration, wikis could take on an even more powerful role in knowledge management.

In recent years, the need to bring XWiki up to modern web accessibility standards has become increasingly important. XWiki has always allowed users to upload attachments to wiki pages, but what if those files could be edited in real time? This talk introduced XWiki’s new extension that integrates with COOL (Collabora Online), enabling seamless collaborative editing of office files directly from wiki pages.

Competing with multi-billion-dollar companies in the collaboration software space is tough—but not for the reasons you might think. While Open Source projects are often compared to their deep-pocketed proprietary rivals, the real challenge isn’t technical. It’s financial.

Over the past 20 years, XWiki and CryptPad have faced this reality firsthand. This talk explored the economic hurdles of building privacy-respecting, Open Source end-user applications and how shifts in proprietary pricing models have actually brought more users to Open Source alternatives.

The session also shared how XWiki has strategically hacked its funding over the years, gradually improving its software, gaining recognition, and ultimately increasing customer revenue. Finally, the talk introduced the XWiki FOSS Fund, an initiative to give back to the Open Source projects that power our work—because for Open Source to truly thrive, the community must solve the financial challenge together.
