ABOUT SURAYA NIKWAN
I’m an Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) and an Accredited Practising Nutritionist (AN). This means that I completed four years of university to achieve these titles.
John Paul College was my primary and secondary school. Fresh out of school, I obtained my qualifications by heading to Bond University and completed a Bachelor of Biomedical Science. I’ve always been passionate about nutrition and food. Driven by this, I then channeled my energy to complete a Master of Nutrition and Dietetics (Research) at Griffith University.
I established our primary practice, Simple and Easy Nutrition in 2014. Now, I am teaming up with the Moderation Clinic and Dr Jason Wong to provide high-quality dietetic support on the Northside.
I manage a great team of supportive dietitians to guide you through weight loss surgery, cardiovascular nutrition (hypertension and hyperlipidemia), management of diabetes mellitus , reflux, sensible weight loss, eating disorders and normalising eating disorder management, and malnutrition.

On our podcast today we have Dr. Brooke Jackson, board certified dermatologist and dermatologic surgeon. After completing two fellowships: Laser Surgery at Harvard and a second in Mohs, she founded the Mohs Surgery Unit at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Dr. Jackson then moved to Chicago, where she founded the Skin Wellness Center of Chicago and held a clinical faculty position in the Department of Dermatology at Northwestern University. In 2013, Dr. Jackson relocated to the Triangle area. She was an Associate Professor of Dermatology at UNC, Chapel Hill, until opening her private practice Skin Wellness Dermatology Associates. Dr. Jackson’s practice philosophy focuses on patient education and skin wellness. She has been voted one of NC'S top doctors. Dr. Jackson is a frequent and sought after guest and resource for national and local media on dermatology concerns. An avid runner and budding triathlete, Dr. Jackson has completed 10 marathons (26.2 miles). She is married with three very active children. MEET MARY
Mary Warner Nocera, RD, LDN, graduated Summa Cum Laude from East Carolina University with a Bachelor's of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics. She also completed her dietetic internship program through ECU and became a registered dietitian in 2005. She has 15 years of experience as an RD and is also a certified Health Coach through UNC Greensboro. Eleven years have been spent completing outpatient nutrition counseling for individuals with various diagnoses as well as those undergoing bariatric surgery. She has worked side by side with several bariatric surgeons over the last 7 years. She is currently employed with UNC Lenoir Health Care as a bariatric dietitian, who serves those that seek weight loss via medical nutrition therapy, medically supervised weight loss program, and bariatric weight loss surgery. Her true passion is to help individuals achieve their goals and improve their health, wellness, and quality of life.

MEET DR. WILJON W. BELTRE
Wiljon W. Beltre, MD is a Board Certified surgeon who has dedicated his professional career to helping individuals who are significantly overweight achieve real, effective weight loss and improve their health, well-being, and quality of life through metabolic and bariatric surgery. Dr. Beltre received his undergraduate degree at Union College in New York and his medical degree at Howard University in Washington, DC. He completed his general surgery internship and residency at Monmouth Medical Center in New Jersey, then moved to Central Florida where he worked with one of the most experienced bariatric surgeons in the United States. In 2004, he completed a fellowship in cutting-edge, minimally-invasive surgical technologies, advanced laparoscopic procedures, and bariatric surgery techniques at the University of Texas, and is now one of the only fellowship-trained bariatric surgeons in Central Florida.

In this episode of the podcast, Dr. Toni Johnson Liggins, clinical psychiatrist, describes what a healthy mental state looks like, how to identify depression, defines anxiety, and shares with us how to get help in order to chart a path to our better selves. Dr. Liggins graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School and completed residency training in psychiatry at the Cleveland Clinic.
