Make it Make Sense is a Quiet Rebel Podcast where Tracie Jae and her guest try to make sense of the things which make no sense to them. This week we chat with Kim Y. Davis about sports and politics.
Kim Davis is a veteran journalist, entrepreneur, media consultant, keynote speaker and sports analyst. She has more than 25 years of experience in news, sports, and media management for network TV affiliates such as NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, WB, and Comcast where she has broadcast 1000s of stories, interviews, and live shows. She’s worked as an anchor, reporter, host, producer and news manager.
She is President of The KD Company, a media and communications consulting company, providing video production, media training, strategic and crisis communications and features “Chalk Talk”, an interactive sports communications series for women. Kim founded the company in 2004 after successfully working as a journalist around the country and serving as Vice President of Super Bowl XXXVIII (38). She also owns Kimy Treats, a company that features vegan, non-gmo popcorn, and gives her a chance to show off her culinary creativity.
Her career started in print and talk radio in her hometown, Houston, Texas. Kim disrupts the normal while creating the spectacular. This dynamic journalist, leadership and communication strategist delivers content that empowers audiences. Throw in her experience running two businesses while hosting and producing a weekly live sports show, and you’re in for a treat. Years of working in locker rooms, with team owners, industry executives, sponsors and rabid sports fans have given Kim an abundance of real-life insights that she uses to tell stories about all things sports, culture and food! Her first book is in the works and she hopes to launch a new TV show, “Sports Bites with Kim,” in the third quarter of 2021.
Kim is a native Houstonian and graduate of Texas A&M University. She's received several awards for professional excellence and community service including being named one of Houston’s Top 25 Women in 2010. She remains active in the community and has served on several boards including AIDS Foundation Houston, UNCF, Dress for Success, Academia in Motion (AIM), the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau (Treasurer), the Zina Garrison Academy and the Houston Associations of Black Journalists.
