About: Lorna Segall is director of music therapy at University of Louisville and a music therapy clinician specializing in treating prison medical and hospice populations. Her primary research interests explore music therapy in corrections, end-of-life/bereavement care, gerontology, and intergenerational programming. Segall’s vocal background guides her research in exploring how choral singing influences the psychological and physical condition for various populations. Founder of the Behind the Wire Choir at Wakulla Correctional Institute, she also presents and lectures at conferences. Segall was a hospice clinician prior to teaching. She earned a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance, masters’ degrees in music therapy and vocal performance, and a PhD in music education. She is passionate about utilizing music to reframe stereotypes, embrace the beauty of being human, and give voice to those who are not heard.
