There aren’t many people that can make baltic birch make me feel the way I do when I see his projects. Not only can he make wood melt, his signature style on patterned plywood will make you question everything you ever thought about plywood. Some of his most popular videos include a melting table, murphy bar, and unique patterned plywood projects. With over 500k YouTube subscribers and dozens of maker collabs under his belt, Michael Alm with Alm Fab joins me in the Lounge.

Just wait until you hear this guy’s story. He stared into the mirror after quitting his successful day job and said to himself “I truly believe in myself.” He and his girlfriend started posting on social media the projects they were doing for neighbors and formed a business. Growing their massive following on social media led to droves of real housewives in Atlanta sliding into their DM. With a business name that would make woodchucks chuckle, the owners of Would Wood Work, Anil and Sam are in the Lounge.
In 2017, he turned in his notice for his corporate job and pursued his dream to go full-time inspiring others to build things with their hands. From product reviews and shop organization, to building a jail cell for his son’s phone to stop him from seeing his latest video, he is a familiar face in the maker community. His channel name is something I hear on a regular basis around my old house - “Fix This, Build That!” With over 3MM followers and subscribers on social media, Brad Rodriguez with FTBT is here.
Today's guest is usually the host of his own well-established podcast, and yet he agreed to be on THIS mere mortal’s podcast. His main YouTube channel is geared for the average woodworker like me, which is why it’s grown to almost 2 million subscribers. The man behind Woodworking For Mere Mortals, the WTS Podcast, and the Weekend Woodworker is here in the lounge. Steve Ramsey.

He is the man behind the camera, producer, editor, director, and in charge of catching the perfect fluffy butt shots on the farm for the VERY successful Anne of All Trades. He recently stepped out from the corporate world to spend his days producing content on the farm with his wife Anne and their countless animals. Don’t be fooled by his Instagram handle; Adam of No Trades has a full plate and still agreed to take some time from his busy schedule to join me in the Lounge.

He stands about 12 Titebond jugs tall, with an occasional, almost seasonal, mustache. You may have passed his face on a display at your local Rockler and not even known it. He used to be micro, but dropped the micro to focus on his own jig. (If you don’t get that joke, stay tuned) In his words, “If it ain’t weird, it ain’t on-brand.” With a last name so difficult to pronounce, he shortened it to Hop, Morgan Hop is in the Lounge.

Michael Williams with Calavera Tool Works joins me in the lounge to talk about how his custom apron company was formed, what he did before starting his business, and how he comes up with designs and markets his leather works. Michael has built a prominent business in the maker community, providing top-notch aprons that maintains his "as long as Michael walks the face of the Earth" guarantee for quality. I enjoyed getting to know more about how he started his small business and continues his hustle by engaging with the woodworking and maker community.
Patrons of the podcast will get a 20% off code for any products from the Calavera website.

This episode was recorded with a live studio audience from Workbench Con 2023 in Atlanta. We invited our Patreon members and others to join us while I spoke with Hannah and Skylar from SurfPrep Sanding. SurfPrep has been a long-time partner of Voeltner Woodworking and the Maker Lounge Podcast, and it was a perfect opportunity to sit with them in person to talk about how the business got started, share some great memories, and get you to know more about the family behind the brand. I hope you enjoy this episode.
Thank you to Kristin and the team at Workbench Con for letting us set up this recording space!

Whether he is doing tool reviews or working on product development, this creator keeps his subscribers engaged with his intriguing storylines and visual style. From Sunday morning sermons to speed squares, he can deliver a compelling message that keeps his audience from nodding off. He has more track saws than there are days in the week, and somehow he has convinced his wife they are for research and development. If you watch his videos you’ll quickly see, he puts the wit in WittWorks. Drew Witt joins me to talk about YouTube, content creation, and putting people first.

His wife told him he needed a hobby, which I know from experience is wife-code for “we need new furniture.” From steam bending to complex joinery, I’ve never seen someone make complicated builds look so easy. I binge-watched his YouTube channel for about 6 hours and instantly doubted whether I was even a woodworker. The dad jokes in his videos make mine sound like step-dad jokes. The only guy I feel comfortable saying “nice curves” to is here in the lounge. Nick Sawyer with Sawyer Design joins me to talk projects, design, and YouTube.
