I start with a Reddit question that asked people how they would make $1,000 in one month. The top answer suggested skipping gig apps and selling services to local businesses. I agree with part of that strategy, but I think there is an even faster path: start with skills, knowledge, tools, and experience you already have.

Instead of spending your limited 30 days learning web design, cold calling, or some completely new side hustle, look at what people already ask you for help with. That could be coaching, YouTube advice, tech help, woodworking, renting out equipment, tutoring, or a simple service based on something you already know how to do.

I’ll show you how I would identify those opportunities, price them simply, find potential customers in places like Facebook groups, Reddit, and your existing network, and then document the work so one service can eventually become a digital product, course, or YouTube channel.

The goal is not to find the perfect business. The goal is to get to your first customer faster by eliminating as much learning time as possible. If you want to make $1,000 in 30 days, execution matters more than chasing a brand-new idea.

My affiliate marketing journey started when I was working as a software developer and looking for another way to make money. I followed a YouTube tutorial, answered a few questions online, and within about 12 hours earned my first $130 in affiliate commissions. At the time, I thought I had discovered the easiest business model in the world.

Over the years, I promoted everything from web hosting and online courses to security cameras, soundbars, kitchen products, cameras, and everyday household products. Some content I created seven or eight years ago still generates affiliate commissions today.

So why did I stop making affiliate marketing my primary strategy?

UGC, or user-generated content, can look attractive because a company might pay you hundreds of dollars to make a short video. The problem is that you may get paid once while the company continues using your content, your image, and your work to generate revenue long after your payment is gone.

That’s why I think the better strategy is to build something you own.

I break down UGC vs affiliate marketing, why affiliate marketing has more long-term potential, and why I believe combining affiliate offers with your own digital products or services is even stronger. Instead of relying on one UGC contract after another, you can create content around something you already know, build an audience, sell your own offer, and recommend useful products as an affiliate.

I even use baseball as an example. Someone creating hitting videos could sell a simple digital hitting guide while also recommending batting cages, gloves, baseballs, screens, and other equipment. One piece of content can support multiple income streams instead of earning you one check.

We’ll also talk about one important thing UGC creators need to watch for: exclusivity agreements that could prevent you from republishing content or working with competing brands.
