On today’s episode of the LLVLC Show, we take on the topic of food as medicine in this special episode of JIMMY RANTS on The LLVLC Show Episode 1664. “It’s so much more than just looking at the macros that most diets look to, you see quickly that micro-nutrients have a key role to play.” - Jimmy Moore We’ve heard the adage that is often attributed to Hippocrates, the Greek founder of western medicine, “Let food be thy medicine, and let medicine be thy food.” But how do we ensure that the food we are eating is doing its proper job? The often overlooked key to implementing this adage is the role of micronutrients. So many of us who have embraced real food, keto, carnivore, or some other nutritional health plan already recognize the concept of “food is medicine.” Reversing chronic disease and boosting our health now has become so much a part of our life that we can’t understand why this isn’t implemented by the mainstream medical profession. But a new paper in the British Medical Journal is trying to change that. ⁣ ⁣ In this episode of JIMMY RANTS on the LLVLC Show, Jimmy shares this paper published on June 29, 2020 as part of the BMJ “Food For Thought” series that looks closer at making “food is medicine” a reality in a clinical healthcare setting. There are major challenges to make this a reality, including adding in more nutrition education in medical schools along with providing financial assistance to those who need food security and healthy food for their specific condition. But this paper gives hope that it can and must be done.⁣
