Welcome to the Making Meaning Podcast! This week, I'm joined by adventurer, teacher, and single mom of two, Caitlin Rose. Caitlin and I had an amazing conversation about overcoming hardship and struggles. In her life, Caitlin has:
- Lived a nomadic, bi-lingual childhood
- Worked, lived, and cared for children at a spanish-speaking orphanage
- Worked as an English teacher at an Arab-Panamanian school in Panama.
- Raised and loved two incredible boys.
Caitlin and I also talked about vulnerablity and showing up however we are. Faith played a large role in her healing journey, and she shared how many times we need to hit rock bottom before we're ready to turn our lives around.
I absolutely loved this conversation, and I know you will too.

Welcome to the Making Meaning podcast! I'm your host, Doug Sands, and today I had the pleasure of interviewing Matt McQueen. Matt's an adventurous man who's bounced around Europe, the middle east, and the pacific rim.
With his trademark, "smooth, buttery voice", Matt shared a conversation with me where we talked about moving in a military family, enjoying foreign places, and making the most of life.
Without further ado, here's my conversation with Matt McQueen.

Welcome to the Making Meaning Podcast! This week, listen in for a conversation with my friend Erin Cameron. Erin's been living an adventure her entire life, it seems - she and her family rode bicycles all the way across America when she was 12.
Erin is a skier, a rock-climber, and currently, a van lifer. As someone who's been learning about van life for years now, I had a lot of questions to ask.
If you've ever been curious about the custom-built vans you see on social media, this conversation is a great one to listen to. Erin sheds light on both the good and the bad of living in a van.
Erin's mentioned apps:
iOverlander
AllTrails
Mountain Project

Welcome to one of the most adventurous interviews yet on the Making Meaning Podcast!
Meet ice climber, guide, and all-around adventurer Ryan McGuire. Ryan is by far one of the most adventurous people I've ever met. He has:
- Competed as a CrossFit Athlete
- Finished FOUR obstacle course races like the Tough Mudder
- Become a professional outdoor guide for hiking, ice climbing, and more.
- Climbed Cotopaxi and other renowned mountains around the world.

Besides being an epic adventurer, Ryan also gives back to his community:
- He's a leading member of his local Search-and-Rescue team, made up entirely of volunteers.
- He's working on a non-profit to teach the next generation about ice climbing, hiking, and mountaineering expeditions.

Welcome to the Making Meaning podcast! This week's conversation was a blast - John and I covered a wide range of topics, including:
- Cycling across Taiwan
- Studying rivers in the continental west
- Sleeping in public places
- Building connections even when living a nomadic life
John and I were actually roommates for a few weeks at a ski lodge, and this conversation was a great way to catch up with him on what he's been doing since. This is one you definitely don't want to miss.

Welcome to the Making Meaning podcast! My guest this week is aspiring world citizen Becca Miller. As Becca put it, adventure was all she ever knew. Born in Sweden, she lived in Morocco before moving to the US at age 5. After college, she's lived in Ireland and China, and she's followed a course of compassion the entire way.
Here's a brief list of her adventures:
- Working as an NGO volunteer coordinator in Ireland
- Teaching English in China
- Running chainsaws for disaster relief in the US
- Helping those living 200% below the poverty line in Florida.
Becca is an amazing source of inspiration for anyone looking to have an impact on the world. To find out more of her story, listen in to this episode of the Making Meaning podcast.

Welcome to the Making Meaning podcast!
Curious about scuba diving, but not sure where to start? Listen in to this interview with long-time scuba diver Alanna Wasserman.
Alanna and I met while working at the Alta Lodge in Alta, UT. Neither of us had skied before arriving, and we each have a unique story to tell on how we ended up there.
Beyond diving and skiing, Alanna is also a future thru-hiker. She had planned on hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in 2019, but due to the COVID shut-down, she had to post-pone these plans.
If you'd like to reach Alanna with questions about scuba diving, send her an email at: [email protected].

Welcome to the Making Meaning Podcast, with Doug Sands.
In this episode, Doug examines two modes of thinking when tackling any new project: playing it safe or going all-in. Both have their advantages, and both have drawbacks. Listen in to hear examples and lessons learned from each.
This podcast also encourages you to do whatever it is that you're scared to do. You might be holding back on something, waiting for the right time. In reality, there IS no right time. There never has been, and there never will be. When you want something to happen, the time to act is now.

Welcome to the Making Meaning podcast! In this episode, Doug talks about what to do when the going gets rough. Sometimes life is a walk in the park. Other times, life seems to tramp through that park with a baseball bat.
If you're in the middle of your own struggle right now, give this one a listen. Doug talks about some of his own struggles, and he shares how they've shaped where he is today.
