  • Episode 6 - Unlocking Brand Experience with Duncan Milne

The Help Me Unlock Podcast has been rebranded to Making of an Empire. Same magic, same awesome guest line-up, just a bit of that empire energy!

    --
We talk about brand as if it's a colour palette and a logo locked in a deck somewhere. But the brands people queue around the block for aren't winning on guidelines, they're winning on something harder to pin down: the feeling you can't quite name when everything just connects.

In this episode, Aditi sits down with Duncan Milne to pull that feeling apart and ask what it actually takes to build it.

    Let's Dive Into the Highlights

    • Seamless over consistent: Why connecting your brand story meaningfully across touchpoints matters more than painting everything with the same brush.
    • The intangibles do the heavy lifting: Personality, tone, character and values shape experience more than the logo and typeface ever will.
    • Every touchpoint counts: The invoice, the confirmation email, the proposal, the phone call: the ones nobody designs are the ones that quietly define the relationship.
    • Brand essence as a starting point: Boiling a brand down to one or two words that may never appear anywhere, but that everything is built to feel like.
    • The "brand as a person at a dinner party" exercise: A practical way to surface character when archetype wheels leave clients cold.
    • Why the brand deck goes stale: How brand, website and assets drift out of sync when each is built in isolation.
    • Story over plaster: Dishoom, the Red Tomato pizza place in Dubai, and what they reveal about story-led experience and its limits.
    • Two sides to every experience: The creator and the receiver, and the truth that it isn't for everyone.

    Behind the Breakthrough

Duncan Milne is the founder and managing director of Grey Coffee, a brand and interior design agency that brings together great design, storytelling, immersive interiors and customer experience. He's spent over a decade as a brand strategist working across the physical and digital realm, heavy in hospitality with some retail in the mix, helping businesses connect their spaces, websites and digital touchpoints into one experience. He and Aditi sit on the same side of the branding philosophy, which makes for a candid, occasionally sparring conversation between two strategists who clearly love this stuff.

    The Guest Said It Best

"It's how you connect your brand story in a way that is meaningful across all of your customer touch points."

"It's not about consistently applying that brand to everything. It's about consistently weaving that story and that brand narrative through everything, but only where relevant."

"That's not just brand guidelines or colours. That is feel and experience."

    Key Takeaways

    1. Seamless isn't the same as consistent: Consistency is applying the same colours, fonts and logo everywhere. Seamless is thoughtfully weaving the story through each touchpoint only where it's relevant, so the experience feels considered rather than stamped.
    2. The intangibles shape experience most: The things you don't see or touch (personality, tone of voice, character, values) are what humanize a brand and quietly drive how it feels to interact with.
    3. Every touchpoint is a brand moment, even the unglamorous ones: A phone call, a proposal, an order confirmation, an invoice. The pieces businesses never think to design are often where the experience is won or lost.
    4. Start from essence, then build outward: Distill the brand to one or two words that capture the feeling people get when they step in, then design the space, the website and everything else from that foundation.
    5. Understand the audience before the touchpoint: Each touchpoint serves a different purpose for a different person at a different moment. You can only design well once you understand who you're talking to and what they need right then.
    6. Story has real competitive advantage, but it isn't for everyone: There's a creator of the experience and a receiver of it, and sometimes the receiver simply isn't looking for it. That's okay. The brands that go all-in on story create something people will queue for.
    7. A cohesive brand makes everything better for everyone: When the team thinks with an experience-led mindset, it improves the culture, the customer experience and ultimately the growth of the business.

    A Question for You

Think about the touchpoints in your own business that you've never stopped to design: the invoice, the confirmation email, the first thing a new customer sees. Which one, if you gave it real thought, would change how someone feels about you?

  • Episode 5 - Blogcast: 5 Biggest Limiting Beliefs Holding You Back From Building Your Personal Brand

The Help Me Unlock Podcast has been rebranded to Making of an Empire. Same magic, same awesome guest line-up, just a bit of that empire energy!

    --

What if the only thing standing between you and the empire you are meant to build is a story you have been telling yourself? In this solo blogcast, Aditi dismantles the five biggest limiting beliefs that keep brilliant, capable people from building their personal brand. One by one. Just the truth, and exactly what to do about it.

    Let's Dive Into the Highlights

    • The Busy Trap: Being busy is not the barrier. It is the excuse. Aditi breaks down why you are never too busy for the things that truly matter, and how 30 minutes a day is all it takes to get started.
    • The Ikigai Exercise: You are not brand-less. You just have not found your angle yet. Aditi introduces a powerful Japanese life purpose framework that uncovers what your personal brand is already built around.
    • You Are the Only One Who Can Build It: No one else can own your personal brand. That is both the challenge and the greatest competitive advantage you will ever have.
    • The Newcomer Advantage: Feeling late to the party is actually a position of power. As a new entrant, you can see the gaps, learn from those ahead of you, and fill them with your awesomeness.
    • People Don't Fail, They Quit: Fear of failure is the mother of all limiting beliefs. Aditi makes the case that failure is not the destination, quitting too early is.

    Words Worth Remembering

"A well-built personal brand is empowering. It gives you energy, and it gives you the type of energy that comes from confidence and love for your work."

"You are never too busy if the results of doing something or the consequences of not doing something are life-altering."

"You are the only person who can own your personal brand. You are the only person who can build it."

"People don't fail, people just quit before they succeed."

    Key Takeaways

    1. Perspective Kills the Busy Excuse: Attach the real cost of not building your brand to your decision. When you truly understand what you are leaving on the table, 30 minutes a day suddenly becomes very findable.
    2. Your Brand is Not Your Job Title: Your personal brand could be a hobby, a work ethic, a way of seeing the world, or the unique blend of all of the above. Think beyond your role.
    3. Being a Newcomer is a Superpower: You have fresh eyes on an industry that insiders have stopped questioning. Use that vantage point to identify gaps and swoop in with your unique perspective.
    4. Start Before You Are Ready: The introductory call, the Ikigai exercise, the blocked calendar hour. Pick one tiny commitment and make it today. Ideas that are not acted on immediately rarely survive.
    5. Consistency Beats Perfection: Your first post will not go viral. That is not the point. The point is to show up, keep showing up, and let time do what strategy alone never can.

    A Question for You

Aditi says that fear of failure is the underlying mother of all limiting beliefs. So which of these five beliefs has been the loudest voice in your head? And what is the one tiny commitment you could make right now, today, to prove it wrong?

  • Episode 4 - Unlocking the Science of Decision-Making with Trygve Botn

The Help Me Unlock Podcast has been rebranded to Making of an Empire. Same magic, same awesome guest line-up, just a bit of that empire energy!

    --

Every day you are running a business, you are making decisions. Some are small. Some will quietly shape the next five years. And most of us are making them with far less structure than we think. In this episode, Aditi sits down with decision scientist Trygve Botn to unpack the hidden architecture behind every good decision, and why a good outcome does not always mean you made a good choice.

    Let's Dive Into the Highlights

    • Decision vs Outcome: The distinction most of us collapse, and why separating the two is the first and most important step to becoming a better decision maker.
    • The Decision Quality Framework: Trygve walks through his six-element framework live, using Aditi's real-time office space decision as the working example. Frame, objectives, alternatives, information, reasoning, commitment. In that order.
    • More Information Does Not Mean Better Decisions: Why drowning in data before you have clarity on your objectives is one of the most common and costly decision-making mistakes entrepreneurs make.
    • System One vs System Two: The neuroscience of intuition and analytical thinking, and the simple test Trygve uses to know which system a decision actually requires.
    • The Pressure Sale Problem: Why those 24-hour countdown timers work, and the one question Trygve says you should ask yourself before any impulse purchase to immediately cut through the urgency.

    Behind the Breakthrough

Trygve Botn is the founder and CEO of ThinQ Decisions, a consulting firm focused on transferring decision-making skills to organisations and individuals. With over 15 years of experience in the energy industry, including time as a decision science analyst at Chevron, he has been part of over 300 projects and investment decisions.

Trygve holds a Master of Science in International Business from the Norwegian Business School and is a fellow at the Society of Decision Professionals. His work sits at the intersection of behavioural science, values, and structured thinking, helping people and organisations stop leaving their best decisions to chance.

    The Guest Said It Best

"A decision is something I choose as a conscious act of choices. And when I make a decision, I may end up with a good outcome or I may end up with a bad outcome."

"It's not meaning that more information equals better decision."

"You should always do this test: does this feel right with what I know? Regardless, at some point when things become too complex, there should at least be a strong signpost that you should probably turn into more of a structured approach."

"Today, information is not, there's no scarcity around access to information at all, right? You can find everything you need to find. And yet, are we making better quality decisions?"

    Key Takeaways

    1. Separate the Decision from the Outcome: A good outcome does not mean you made a good decision. Judging your choices by how they turn out is how you stay stuck making the same kind of decisions. Judge the quality of the process instead.
    2. Frame the Problem Before You Choose: Most bad decisions happen because the frame was too narrow or too broad from the start. Clarity on what you are actually trying to solve is the work that makes everything else easier.
    3. Only Gather Information That Can Change Your Mind: If the information you are collecting would not shift which alternative you choose, it has no decision value. Stop gathering it and start deciding.
    4. Know When to Use Your Gut: Intuition is fast, efficient and often correct for low-stakes choices. But when complexity, ambiguity and consequences increase, slow down and get structured.
    5. Clear Objectives are Your Defence Against Pressure Tactics: Before any significant purchase or commitment, write down what you are trying to accomplish. If the thing in front of you does not serve those objectives, the urgency is not your problem to solve.

    A Question for You

Trygve points out that we have more access to information today than at any point in history, and yet we are not necessarily making better decisions. So the next time you face a significant choice, before you gather more data, can you answer this first: what am I actually trying to accomplish here, and what does a good outcome really look like for me?

  • Episode 2 - Unlocking the High Performance Formula with Paul Clarke

The Help Me Unlock Podcast has been rebranded to Making of an Empire. Same magic, same awesome guest line-up, just a bit of that empire energy!

    --

Are you driving with your foot on the accelerator and the brake at the same time? Aditi sits down with performance coach and CONNECT Performance founder Paul Clarke to dismantle the myth that high performance is just about working harder. Together, they explore "The Performance Formula" and how to bridge the gap between your natural capability and the daily energy you actually have available to use.

    Let’s Dive Into the Highlights

    • The Capability Trap: Paul explains why high-achieving people feel frustrated when they can't access their skills, often rating their daily performance as a 5/10 despite having 9/10 talent.
    • The Thursday Slump: We discuss why many entrepreneurs find themselves "wiped" by Thursday lunchtime because they lack the bedrock habits to recharge their internal battery.
    • Stress as a Tool: Aditi and Paul debunk the idea that stress is purely "bad," exploring how high performers must learn to "turn off" their stress response to allow for vital restoration.
    • The Restoration Gap: A look at how the world of elite sports uses data to ensure athletes are ready to perform, and how we can apply those "marginal gains" to our new digital world.

    Behind the Breakthrough

Paul Clarke operates at the intersection of premium brand sales and sports science. After years of observing inconsistent results in the corporate world compared to the disciplined preparation of athletes, he founded CONNECT Performance to help leaders stop "spinning their wheels." By using individualised data and his 9 to Thrive program, Paul helps entrepreneurs reverse-engineer their lifestyle habits—moving away from chronic "fight or flight" and toward a state of consistent, high-level output.

    The Guest Said It Best

"They’ve given it everything, but there's something holding them back... they're almost driving with their foot on the accelerator and the brake at the same time."

"We're not saying stress is bad. We need some stress, especially high performers... but equally, they can't be triggered all the time."

"The performance you get is grounded in and is governed by your ability to access that capability."

"If you want better outcomes, you have got to make better changes… you can't negotiate on that one."

    Key Takeaways

    • The 3S System: High performance is built on three "bedrock" pillars: Stress management, Sleep quality, and Staying active.
    • Individualised Data: Stop following "one-size-fits-all" advice; using physiological feedback like Heart Rate Variability (HRV) shows you the objective truth of your recovery.
    • The Bedtime "Cool Down": Avoid "triggering" activities like business reading or high-energy journaling right before bed, as they keep your brain in a "fight or flight" state when it should be rebooting.
    • Don't Drop the Gym: Physical activity is often the first thing cut from a busy calendar during a downward spiral, yet it is essential for the energy levels needed to function at a high level.

    A Question for You

Are you actually lacking the talent to reach the next level, or are you just trying to drive a high-performance machine on an empty tank? If you treated your recovery with the same intensity as your sales calls, what would your "Friday afternoon energy" actually look like?

  • Episode 1 - Unlocking LinkedIn Visibility with Heidi Medina

The Help Me Unlock Podcast has been rebranded to Making of an Empire. Same magic, same awesome guest line-up, just a bit of that empire energy!

    --

LinkedIn is not a billboard. It is a conversation. And if you have been treating it like one, this episode is going to change the way you show up on the platform entirely. Aditi sits down with digital marketing strategist and four-time business owner Heidi Medina to unpack the real mechanics of LinkedIn visibility, from the algorithm to the art of selling without the ick.

    Let's Dive Into the Highlights

    • The Conversation Platform: Why LinkedIn's fundamental difference from every other social media platform is that people actually want to talk to you there, and how to use that to your advantage.
    • Comments are Content: Heidi's number one tip for every client. If you do not have time to post today, skip the post and go straight to the comments. Every comment is a piece of content and a place to show up.
    • The 14-Day Lifespan: Unlike Instagram or Facebook where content dies within hours, LinkedIn gives your posts a significantly longer runway. Heidi explains why that changes everything about how you think about consistency.
    • The Selling Ick: Why so many entrepreneurs, especially women, struggle to ask for the sale online, and the mindset shift that makes it feel less like a transaction and more like a service.
    • Post Live, Plan Smart: Why auto-schedulers kill your reach on LinkedIn, and how Heidi plans 75% of her content in advance while leaving room for the inspired 25%.

    Behind the Breakthrough

Heidi Medina is a digital marketing strategist, business coach, and four-time business owner with over 25 years of organic marketing experience. She spent two decades creating digital landscapes for CEOs and movie stars before moving into content and social media management for Fortune 500 companies. In 2018 she jumped into coaching, helping entrepreneurs build consistent marketing strategies that give them the freedom and flexibility to live the life they actually want. LinkedIn is her home turf, and this episode proves exactly why.

    The Guest Said It Best

"For me, LinkedIn is about enjoying the conversation. So whatever I can do to get that started, that's what I'm working to make happen."

"The comments are where the gold is at. And I tell all my clients and people that if you don't have time to post that day, don't post. Skip the posting. Do comments."

"If you switch the idea of the hard sell to realising you are serving your clients, and if you don't deliver that, then you are letting those people that need you down."

"You're professional enough if you're doing what works for you and your brand. So just bring us you. At the end of the day, that's what's going to connect with people."

    Key Takeaways

    1. Engagement First, Always: LinkedIn rewards conversation. Showing up in the comments is not just good manners. It is how the algorithm learns who your audience is and starts working in your favour.
    2. Shares Do Not Move the Needle: Sharing someone else's content gets you almost no reach on LinkedIn. If something inspires you, write an original post that references it instead. That is where the visibility lives.
    3. Plan Your Content, Post it Live: Auto-schedulers actively reduce your reach. Plan ahead, but show up in person to post and stay around to engage with what comes back.
    4. Selling is Serving: If you have a solution that someone needs and you do not make the offer, you are doing them a disservice. Reframing the sale as service changes the energy of every ask.
    5. Think Community, Not Audience: LinkedIn visibility is not about broadcasting. It is about building a curated network of people you genuinely want to be in conversation with, and showing up for them consistently.

    A Question for You

Heidi says that the biggest trick to LinkedIn that most people miss is engagement. Not posting more, not going viral, just getting into the comments and having real conversations. So when was the last time you showed up on LinkedIn not to post, but simply to connect? What would change if you made that your first move this week?

    1 hr
  • Episode 3 - Blogcast: The 5 Most Painful Social Media Challenges that Entrepreneurs Face

The Help Me Unlock Podcast has been rebranded to Making of an Empire. Same magic, same awesome guest line-up, just a bit of that empire energy!

    --

You don't need to be everywhere. You don't need a viral moment. And you definitely don't need to drown your week in content just to stay visible. In this solo blogcast, Aditi breaks down the five most painful social media challenges that entrepreneurs face online and, more importantly, the practical workarounds that actually move the needle without costing you your sanity.

    Let's Dive Into the Highlights

    • The 'Basics First' Method: Why every marketing 'guru' promising you overnight results is sending you in the wrong direction, and the slow, organic approach that actually builds something real.
    • The Layered Marketing Strategy: How to stop spreading yourself thin across every platform and channel, and instead build one solid layer at a time until it starts generating results.
    • The Curse of a Good Cause: Why passion-led and purpose-driven businesses face a uniquely brutal conversion challenge, and what to do when likes and support simply refuse to turn into paying clients.
    • Message Adamant: The single most powerful thing you can do to stand out in a saturated market is not say something new. It is saying the same right thing, over and over, until your name becomes synonymous with it.
    • The Social Media Optional Truth: The take most people are too afraid to give you. Your business can absolutely thrive without social media. But here's the thing: you have to find your channel.

    Words Worth Remembering

"Building a social media presence or an email list on any kind of digital platform, it's friggin’ hard work."

"Trying all of them at the same time is a recipe for disaster. I made that mistake and absolutely drowned time and money into trying to do it all."

"The cream that floats to the top of social media are not the people with the most unusual things to say. They are the people who say the same thing over and over again and have a distinct signature attached to those messages."

"Your business will grow if you solve a real problem and if you can get your solution or your product in front of people who need to solve that problem."

    Key Takeaways

    1. Nail the Offer Before the Audience: A big following built around a blurry message is a vanity metric waiting to cost you money. Get the offer sharp and the messaging clear first, then amplify.
    2. One Channel, One Format, First: Master the production process and start seeing results on one platform before you even think about adding the next layer. Overwhelm is a systems problem, not a discipline problem.
    3. Repetition is the Strategy: The entrepreneurs rising to the top are not the ones saying the most original things. They are the ones saying their core message so consistently it becomes a signature.
    4. Map the Journey or Lose the Sale: Likes do not pay the bills. If you do not have a clearly defined next step for someone after they engage with your content, you are leaving the conversion entirely to chance.
    5. Find Your Channel, Not Their Channel: Social media is a tool, not a law. If it genuinely does not work for you, there are other ways to get in front of your dream client. The question is where you can show up with the most energy and consistency.

    A Question for You

Aditi says the entrepreneurs who rise to the top are not the ones with the most to say. They are the ones who say the same right thing, with a distinct signature, over and over again. So what is the one core message at the heart of everything you do? And are you saying it clearly, consistently, and confidently enough for your dream client to find you?
