The omicron strain of COVID-19 is surging in Kansas City and across the country. Meanwhile, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has shortened the amount of suggested time a person has to quarantine if they test positive for the virus. Volunteers across the country fan out every January to count the number of people experiencing homelessness in their communities for what is called a point-in-time count, but the count is widely known to be inaccurate. As KCUR’ s Laura Ziegler reports, Kansas City is one of a few cities using new technology to change that.
