In this episode, the last of season 2 of Man Talk, I return to the format of series 1, as I talk to Alex Galbally, otherwise known as @daddy_to_triplet_girls on Instagram about his issues with anxiety and body dysmorphia. Whilst Alex is well-known online for being a father to triplets, another area he’s becoming more open about is his mental health. In this episode, Alex is incredibly open and honest about his struggles as he describes his darkest moments, whilst also detailing the help he’s received. I’m hugely grateful to Alex for opening up like this as this is not a topic that’s been discussed on Man Talk before, but I think we can all agree, as with anything that impacts on our mental health, it’s hugely important that it’s talked about.

In this episode of Man Talk, I meet with Ben Eine (@einesigns) in Shoreditch, London. Ben is one of the most successful street artists in the world and is regarded as a pioneer in the exploration of graffiti letterforms. His distinctive letters spell words and phrases across walls from London to LA, Florence to Tokyo as he continues to use street art to engage the public. Our chat was actually in a pub as he took a break from finishing his piece on Old Street that spells ‘Stop Knife Crime’.
We talk about his struggles with his mental health, which he openly admits are elevated by drugs and alcohol and go back to his teenage years. We discuss his coping mechanisms and counselling, and delve into the incredible work he does with charities. Using his art, he’s helped multiple charities such as Movember and Shelter.

This week I’m in London at the ReThink Mental Illness offices near Vauxhall. I should say, because of the proximity to Vauxhall, you’ll have to ignore the rumblings of the nearby trains through the show. My guest is Laurence Davies who is the Head of Training and Consultancy at ReThink, who along with his team, visit companies large and small to provide mental health training and workshops. We talk about the changes in attitude of mental health in work spaces over the years, the resistance he still finds and most importantly, Laurence is loaded with lots of useful information. If you’re a business owner, a manager, a member of HR, a team member who wants to support a colleague or an individual struggling with your mental health at work, this show is packed full of advice which I’m sure you’ll find hugely valuable.

In this episode, recorded earlier in the year during Mental Health Awareness Week, I meet with Sarah Coghlan, Global Director at Movember (@movember). Sarah has been at Movember since it formed back in 2003. From what started as a laugh between a few friends in a pub in Australia, has grown to be a foundation funding global projects in prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and in recent years, mental health.
We speak about Movember’s journey and go into detail about the projects they fund. Their work centres around building protective factors so men are able to find a way of seeking help on terms they’re comfortable with and thus, hopefully never reach crisis point.
Sarah is armed with so much information, useful advice and talks passionately about how their projects might help you or someone you know. And with Movember only a few days away now, how about making this year the year you grow a mo’ and save a bro.
