Testicular Fortitude means having deep seated masculine courage and strength. Balls. Guts. Manlihood.
Testicular Fortitude on the Manlihood ManCast is where we take a look at men who have beat the odds, men whose courage has left a lasting legacy.
The Vikings, feared and ruthless raiders, who plundered and pillaged their way through Europe, spreading terror and destruction wherever they went. But among their ranks stood one warrior who rose above the rest, a man who was as feared as he was respected, a man known as Ivar the Boneless.
Ivar, son of Ragnar Lothbrok, was a Viking chieftain of Danish origin, whose life story is suffused with legend. He was a man who sought not only to plunder but to conquer.
In 865, Ivar and his brothers Halfdan and Hubba invaded Great Britain at the head of a large Viking force, known as the Great Heathen Army.
Their motivation was to avenge their father, who had died after being captured while raiding the kingdom of Northumbria.
After capturing the capital city of York in 866, Ivar led his army to Nottingham, in the kingdom of Mercia. But the Mercian king Burgred called upon Wessex for assistance, and King Aethelred I and the future King Alfred soon arrived to besiege Nottingham. The Danes withdrew to York without a fight.
Ivar and his brothers remained in York for about a year, before returning to East Anglia where they defeated King Edmund in battle.
Ivar did not participate in the Viking campaign to take Wessex from King Alfred in the 870s. Instead, he renewed his partnership with Olaf the White and entered what is now Scotland. Their army overran and destroyed Dumbarton, capital of the Strathclyde kingdom, in 870. The following year the two returned in triumph to Dublin. Ivar, by then known as 'king of the Norsemen of all Ireland and Britain,' died in 873.
The meaning of Ivar's peculiar nickname, 'the Boneless,' is not known with any certainty. It might refer to a hereditary skeletal condition such as osteogenesis imperfecta, or to an inability to walk.
It stands in contrast to modern times, when pain or any kind of disability almost gives us an excuse to surrender. Ivar isn’t known for his kindness, or his goodness. He was fierce and brutal. He took what didn’t belong to him. He ruled and reigned in the very ways a viking would expect. As with many of the men we highlight here, we can learn from their moral weakness as much as we can learn from their strength.
In the face of that debilitating pain, Ivar the Boneless was a Viking warrior unlike any other, a man of courage, strength, and determination, whose legacy lives on to this day.

Welcome to the Manlihood ManCast, the podcast for men who want to become better men, and today we have a special guest, David Mike. David is the author of the book, "Dishonor: One Soldier’s Journey from Desertion to Redemption," where he shares his personal story of redemption and hope. He is a Cosmetology Instructor in Omaha, NE, and he's here to share his life experiences and insights into how he overcame his past mistakes.
Early Life:
David grew up in a family with limited resources but plenty of creativity. His father was in the Air Force, and as a result, he had the opportunity to live and travel to interesting places. David joined the Army right after high school, but unfortunately, he got into trouble and ended up getting Court-Martialed and sent to United States Disciplinary Barracks in Ft. Leavenworth, KS, for three years.
David wrote this book to share his story of how God used his time in prison to get his attention and how he found redemption and freedom from his past mistakes. His book is a vulnerable and compelling look at a life gone wrong, and he gives insights into prison life and the shame that comes with living a dishonorable life. David pleads for you to find the same redemption he found in his life.
David found redemption through his faith and his wife's love and support. He talks about how he turned his life around and started anew after his release from prison. He emphasizes the importance of not being defined by your past and that guilt and shame can be removed through the redeeming power of Christ.
David's book, "Dishonor: One Soldier’s Journey from Desertion to Redemption," is available on Amazon in both Kindle and paperback formats. He encourages listeners to purchase a copy and leave a review to help make a huge wave on Amazon and possibly help him hit bestsellers status. He also hopes to get his book into prisons, and your purchase can make it possible for him to get future copies to inmates and treatment centers. If you can't purchase the book, he asks that you tell others about it. David is honored and grateful for your support.

Hannibal of Carthage
The Roman Empire wasn’t a force to mess around with. Their soldiers were ruthless. Their armor and weapons were elite. Their strategy and tactics were forged and tested and refined.
And yet, one North African struck Rome like a hurricane, and we still tell his stories thousands of years later.
Today’s featured man with balls is - Carthaginian General Hannibal.
Carthage was a Phoneician settlement in what is now Tunisia in North Africa. They were building a different kind of empire in the ancient world. They had trading outposts from West Africa to Spain and Portugal to Italy.
The Roman Empire, fueled by their worship of their Caesars, attempted to swallow the world and make it all Rome.
The Carthignians had already suffered defeat against the Romans in the First Punic War. Hannibal’s father was a general on that front.
After the war, his father went to strengthen his family’s wealth by raiding and subjugating the tribes on the Iberian peninsula.
Hannibal would continue to fight and lead after his father’s death nine years later. He led troops drawn from the Iberian tribes through the Pyrenees Mountains in 218 BC, then through Gaul, fighting the tribes as he neared the Alps. Some of the tribes ended up leaving their affiliation with Rome and joining forces with him.
They faced numerous difficulties, and according to one historian, they even had to excavate rockfalls on the journey. Using fire to heat the rocks, and then vinegar to douse the rocks, making them split into rubble so it could be cleared.
Hannibal’s army was making a bold and almost outlandish attack.
So crazy it just might work.
Your life, and your freedom are really up to you. Today’s guest started out as a freelance sports photographer, and pursued that passion until it turned into the life he always wanted to live.
Today’s guest on the Manlihood ManCast is Vincent Pugliese

Vincent earned his Bachelor's degree in Communication from Ohio University, where he was named National Champion for the William Randolph Hearst Photojournalism Championship prior to graduation. He has photographed for all leading wire services and various national and local publications throughout the United States, including major sporting and news events such as the Super Bowl, World Series, NHL Final, NBA Conference Finals, The Kentucky Derby, and Wrestlemania.
Vincent's passion for freedom has led him to believe that having control over your time, money, and the work you do is the ultimate key to living a life of freedom. He homeschools his three boys with his wife Elizabeth, and together they teach others how to achieve total life freedom. Vincent's new book, Freelance to Freedom, provides a roadmap for creating a side business to achieve financial, time, and life freedom, and it was published by Morgan James Publishing in early 2018.

One of the most common reasons for failure is poor planning. Many people dive into a project without first taking the time to think about what they need to do to succeed. This can lead to frustration, disappointment, and ultimately, failure. To avoid this, take the time to sit down and create a plan for your project. Break it down into smaller, achievable steps, and make sure you have a clear understanding of what you need to do to succeed.
Another reason for failure is poor thinking. If you constantly focus on the negatives, you'll find it hard to achieve your goals. To overcome this, try to focus on the positives and find ways to stay motivated. Surround yourself with positive, supportive people, and seek out positive information and experiences.
In many cases, people fail because they don't execute their plans effectively. To avoid this, make sure you have the right tools and resources to execute your plan, and hold yourself accountable for making progress. Set realistic deadlines, and make sure you stay focused on your goals.
Finally, many people fail because they don't follow through on their plans. To avoid this, make sure you have a clear understanding of what you need to do, and hold yourself accountable for making progress. Stay focused, stay motivated, and keep pushing yourself forward.
How do we overcome failure?
One of the best ways to overcome failure is to hold yourself accountable. This means being honest with yourself about your progress, and taking action to make improvements when necessary. Seek out support from friends, family, or a coach, and keep pushing yourself forward.
Another way to overcome failure is to find strength in numbers. Surround yourself with positive, supportive people, and seek out help when you need it. Whether it's a coach, a mentor, or a supportive friend, having someone to help you stay motivated and focused can make a big difference.
Your mind is your greatest asset, so make sure you take care of it. Take breaks when you need them, seek out positive experiences and information, and avoid negativity as much as possible. By fortifying your mind, you'll be better equipped to overcome any challenges that come your way.
Finally, make a plan and work the plan. Don't just sit back and hope for the best. Take action, make progress, and keep pushing yourself forward. With time and effort, you'll be able to achieve your goals and overcome any challenges that come your way.
In conclusion, if you're struggling to achieve your goals, it's important to understand the reasons behind your failures. By taking a proactive approach and addressing the issues of poor planning, poor thinking, poor execution, and poor follow through, you can turn things around and start achieving your goals. Remember to hold yourself accountable, find strength in numbers, fortify your mind, and make a plan and work the plan. By doing these things, you'll be well on your way to overcoming failure and achieving success.
