Since when did serious become the same thing as spiritual? A lot of us have started treating joy like a beginner's virtue, something you grow out of as your walk with God matures. The truth runs the opposite direction: joy was never meant to fade as you mature, it was meant to deepen. What that actually looks like has less to do with feelings than you'd expect, and more to do with identity. Cynicism has been passing for maturity in a lot of us for a long time. When the storm outgrows what you actually believe about God, what happens? How big is your view of who He really is, and does it hold when the wind picks up? Many of us are carrying hardened parts of our hearts that won't hold what God wants to plant there, no matter how much rain falls on them. What happens when the passion you started with quietly runs out, and nobody around you seems to notice but you? There's a gap between how sold out you were at the beginning and how much of that now feels like performance, and most of us have just learned to live inside it. Abiding is not the same as producing, and trying harder is usually the opposite of what's actually needed. Running on your own love for God instead of His love for you will wear anyone out eventually.
