Persecution can’t silence a faithful church, but comfort can.

Jesus is calling His people to wake up before the lullaby of safety puts us to sleep. In Matthew 10:16–33, Jesus sends His disciples into a hostile world and reminds them, faithfulness will feel like danger, but His Spirit will give them courage to speak.

The church doesn’t have an evangelism problem; it has a discipleship problem. When believers stop being formed into the image of Jesus, they stop carrying His mission to the world. In Matthew 9:35–10:15, Jesus shows us that the remedy for apathy is discipleship. When we surrender, abide, and live sent, evangelism flows naturally from the heart of a true disciple.

We see from this text three different groups of people with very different responses towards Jesus. The blind man, the Crowd, and the Pharisees. Which one do we resonate with the most?

Self-sufficiency is the silent enemy of faith.

We’ve learned to fix, manage, and control, but not to fall at Jesus’ feet.

They called Jesus “a friend of tax collectors and sinners,” and thank God they did. Because if He were not the friend of sinners, He could not be our Savior.

In this message from Matthew 9:9–13, we see Jesus call Matthew, a man marked by greed and rejection, and turn his life into a story of grace. This is not just Matthew’s story—it is ours. No matter your past, your failures, or how far you have run, Jesus still says, “Follow Me.”

We all carry urgent needs, sickness, stress, financial pressure, broken relationships, and much more.

However, in Matthew 9, Jesus reveals something shocking: our greatest need isn’t physical healing, emotional relief, or external change. It’s the forgiveness of our sins.

This passage reminds us that sin is more destructive than any disease and that Jesus’ authority to forgive is His greatest gift. Healing may last a lifetime, but forgiveness lasts for eternity.

The storm raged. The demons roared. The people trembled. But Jesus, the Son of God, stood victorious.

In this powerful passage, we see Jesus calm the chaos of creation, confront the powers of darkness, and expose the human heart’s tendency to cling to comfort instead of choosing Christ. He is Savior over storms, Lord over demons, and the only One who brings true freedom.

It’s easy to admire Jesus when the miracles are flowing. Crowds flocked to Him because of what He was doing, healing the sick, casting out demons, and lifting burdens. But when it came time to count the cost, many turned away.

You don’t inherit salvation by birthright. Being “born into church” doesn’t guarantee a seat at God’s table. Jesus’ encounter with the Roman centurion in Matthew 8 shows us that true faith must be personal, humble, and rooted in trust in Christ’s authority.
