God calls us outward toward our neighbors, yet our own selfishness pushes us inward back towards ourselves. God’s mission and message applies to everyone in spiritual darkness. Jonah is a prophet, but in this story he is no hero. The story has no ending, which points to the readers: “What will we do to complete it?”
