Populärerrtümer' ['The Lexicon of Popular Misconceptions'], Eichborn-Publishers by Krämer und
Trenkler, the following is written: Title: Marco Polo – Marco Polo was in China – quote: "The
only witness to this claim is Marco Polo himself; in truth and unlike what we know from dozens
of books or films, Marco Polo probably never got beyond Constantinople and the Black Sea; he
never saw the Kublai Khan, never was its governor, he was not in Karakorum or Beijing, not in
most of the other cities he claims to have seen in his 'Description of the World'. This is a thesis
seriously discussed among modern sinologists. In other words, Marco Polo would have copied
most of his book (or dictated it to a fellow prisoner in a dungeon in Genoa, where as a prisoner
of war he had four years to invent stories)". End quote. – Then follow 1½ A5 pages with endless
explanations why it has been proved that Marco Polo has never been to China and that
everything he did was just freely made up, etc. What do you think about this – and is what is
explained true –; do you even know the book?
