Best-selling author Mariah Fredericks released her 16th book, The Wharton Plot, in January 2024. I ripped through her latest, fabulous book that focuses on a true crime during the gilded age in NYC. The book is much more than that, though, it a behind the scenes look at the life of a famous American author, Edith Wharton - her broken marriage, her lover, her famous and not so famous friends, her career later in life, and her place as a famous woman in an age when women did not have careers. As usual, Fredericks seamlessly weaves all of the themes together in a fabulously written, engrossing and entertaining novel.

Fredericks uses the backdrop of a real-life murder to introduce us to Wharton as she tries to solve the crime. The reader comes to understand Wharton on a deeper level. Fans of Age of Innocence, by Wharton, will love reading about its author behind the scenes.
