Mark James Kasik, 64, of Columbus, Nebraska, entered into the presence of his Savior on June 13, 2026, at his home following a brief battle with mesothelioma cancer. Mark was born on March 25, 1962, along with his twin sister Mary, in Schuyler, Nebraska, to Lawrence and Marilyn Kasik. He was raised on the family farm outside of Leigh, Nebraska, alongside his nine brothers and sisters. The values of hard work, faith, and family that shaped his childhood remained the foundation of his life. Throughout his life, Mark worked a variety of jobs, including farming, working at the Schuyler packing plant, and driving for Wonder Bread. He dedicated 38 years of service to UPS, where he became known for his strong work ethic, dependability, and commitment to serving others. Mark found great joy in the simple gifts of God’s creation. He loved fishing, hunting, and sharing stories about both with his family and friends. He also held a special fascination with windmills, admiring both their history and craftsmanship. Whether on a riverbank, in a hunting blind, or stopping to admire a windmill along a country road, Mark found peace in the places that reflected his appreciation for hard work, heritage, and the beauty of rural life. Above all else, Mark was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. His faith was evident in every aspect of his life. He faithfully served as an elder at Highland Park and lived sacrificially, always seeking to honor God through his words, actions, and relationships. Mark loved God and his family with all of his heart and lived according to his deepest convictions, particularly found in some of his favorite Bible passages: “You however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from, whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:14-17)

“As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last He will take His stand on the earth.” (Job 19:25) Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Louise Kasik; his daughter, Kristi Kasik Murchie, and her husband, Lukas Murchie, and their children, Oliver and Avery Murchie; his son, Eric Kasik, and his wife, Amanda, and their children, Eli and Emmie Kasik; his son, Jeremy Kasik, and his wife, Anna, and their daughter, Felicity Kasik; his sons Nathan Kasik, Luke Kasik and his wife Olivia, and Joel Kasik and his wife Jenny. He is also survived by his father, Lawrence Kasik; his siblings, Janis Kasik, Bonnie McPhillips (Bill), Julie Spellerberg, Mary Walker, Glenn Kasik (Theresa), John Kasik, Steve Kasik, Tom Kasik, and Joe Kasik (Heather); along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Mark was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn Kasik; his grandparents, Emil and Catherine Kasik and Lad and Adella Belina; his mother-in-law, Beatrice Hebron; his brother-in-law, Frank McKitrick; his grandson, Emileo Lukas Murchie; and his granddaughter, Avalyn Joy Kasik. Those who knew Mark will remember a man of unwavering faith, deep compassion, and extraordinary generosity. He was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, loyal friend, and valued member of his community. His life refl ected Christ’s love through humble service, selfl ess sacrifi ce, and genuine care for others. Mark leaves behind a lasting legacy of faith, integrity, hard work, and love. Though he will be deeply missed, his family rejoices in the assurance that he is now at peace in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. “Well done, good and faithful servant.”- Matthew 25:23
