The following are a few of my tips for travel NOW as well as Post-Pandemic. When sharing these tips, it became really obvious, that the tips that apply to travel now are really best practices that you can apply moving forward.
1. Stay Informed.
Do not panic. Stay informed and be smart. Listen to the suggested precautions: wash hands frequently, avoid touching your face, reduce going to places with large crowds and practice social distancing. Assess your health honestly. Also, stay on top of new developments as this situation is VERY fluid.
And with this, consider the whole travel ecosystem. Travel is more than just planes and hotels, it is about the destination as well.
2. Best Way to Increase Your Chances of a Refund
Be specific with WHY you are cancelling. Everything is on a case by case basis right now. If you are cancelling because you are sick or you have a pre-existing health condition that puts you at high risk, let the company know. You will likely have to prove it with a doctor’s note, but companies are making exceptions for these cases. If you are just cancelling because an event got cancelled, you might be out of luck. Regardless, most companies are trying their best to work with everyone, given the circumstances.
3. Consider postponing instead of cancelling.
Especially if you are having a hard time getting a refund--get credit where you can and plan something later. There is no point in trying to push through and travel now. With so many attractions and activities closed, it is likely your destination will not be fully operational. Do you really want to go to a destination where everything is closed?
And don't know when? Err on the side of safety and push it to early 2021.

A Day in the Life of a Commercial Diver with Robert Marr and Ford Wall

In this week’s episode, Grant Guillot is joined by Rhett Ross and Philip Burton with Deuce Drone, a UAS delivery service provider based out of Mobile and initially operating in cities within Alabama. Guillot’s firm, Adams and Reese, has been engaged by Deuce Drone to assist with regulatory and government relations matters.
“The ability to engage with the public and with federal, but, even more so, state and local leaders at the introductory stage of the development of a drone company is so critical to helping the operation become scalable,” Guillot states, noting that assisting Deuce Drone with its UAS operations falls within Adams and Reese’s “comfort zone in working with state and local officials to help embrace technology and advocate on behalf of our clients.”
Guillot is also joined on the episode by his law partner, Britton Bonner, who leads Adams and Reese’s Economic Development Practice Team and represents commercial enterprises in various sectors, including manufacturing, shipbuilding, logistics and distribution, aviation and aerospace.
“[The drone industry] combines new technology with federal regulation that is going to necessitate local support and state support,” Bonner says. “Most of the projections…have estimated that the drone industry as a whole would have an economic impact that would support over 100,000 jobs potentially by 2025. Where those jobs go is going to be determined by the regulatory environment and the local acceptance of the industry. I think you’ll see states that are opening up sooner to the drone industry and embracing it. They will siphon jobs and opportunities away from state and localities that aren’t in support.”

Dan Allford, President, Arc Specialties, and Brett Hubbard, OEM Sales Manager, Hypertherm joined the Roboticist chronicles to detail the long-standing partnership between Arc Specialties and Hypertherm.

Hypertherm is an industry leader in utilizing plasma for cutting alloys. Arc Specialties uses Hypertherm’s power supply and technology to cut parts with Arc’s robots.

“What we do is take plasma cutting and apply it to a three-dimensional world,” Allford said.

Hypertherm’s technology provides the cut, and Arc’s technology provides motion control.

In a collaborative partnership with Hypertherm, RobotMaster, and KUKA, Arc Specialties co-developed FlexFabTM, a flexible fabrication 3D Robotic Cutting Cell that converts CAD models into a 3D plasma cut steel part. This process saves time and labor hours due to its precision control and the ability to program offline while cutting work continues.

“The FlexFab can be just that - flexible to whatever your application may be in the 3D world,” Hubbard said.

What does the future hold in plasma cutting technology? Hubbard said Hypertherm is continuing to expand its plasma capabilities in the 3D space, as well as looking to its past in developing new non-ferrous metal cutting technologies.
