It's definitely a year to watch out for.

Like any industry, seeing those changes come into play takes time and a lot of cutting through red tape. That's what our content explores on today's episode. How should you approach 2019 headstrong to get energy initiatives moving with vigor, and how should countries, municipalities and companies coordinate to make these energy initiatives a reality?

As pro AV devices grow increasingly interconnected the need to ensure the security of these devices grows. Protecting pro AV equipment from bad actors is an important step in making sure a project goes off without a hitch. Tim Albright, President of AVNation Media, joins this week's episode to discuss the steps that can be taken to prevent security issues. This week's episode also features a conversation with MarketScale correspondent Beth Osborne to recap the ways that retail locations utilized pro AV over the holidays. She walks through specific examples detailing how AR and VR made a big push into the retail landscape.

The evolution of the AV industry has been fueled by technological advances that have garnered much debate through the years. While analog systems have a long and rich history of producing sound resulting in legendary gold and platinum music, this technology can require a whole studio full of equipment. In the ‘90’s, digital development rapidly revamped the boundaries of analog limitations, providing a cheaper (and eventually comparable) method of producing sound that continues to evolve through today. This evolution is making its way into the live event scene, too, changing the job description for the professionals involved.

Creating a memorable trade show experience begins with the booth itself. This may seem obvious, but there are a number of decisions that need to be made regarding a booth for a trade show. What size is your booth going to be? Are you going to rent the materials or purchase them? What are your AV display needs?

Bruce Ulrich, President of Productive Displays, joined us on the Pro AV podcast to advise the industry: we need change the way we think about trade show displays. "It's viewed as an expense and not as a marketing investment opportunity," he said. "It's a channel just like email, direct mail, radio, print, and TV are. Thinking of it in that vein is helpful for the client because it changes their planning perspective."

Ulrich equated trade show booths with billboards along the highway, with the goal being that you’re trying to catch people's attention and get them to leave the highway, or in this case, the literal path they were walking along. Planning ahead and utilizing the right materials are essential to finding success in this process.
