 God had created marriage with certain precepts, principles and values to guide us in building a great marriage. These principles work if we follow them in Spiritual obedience and submission to God.
However, your marriage becomes hard when you approach the marriage from an unrealistic perspective.  If you distort, discard or refuse to follow the principles he lied down, your marriage will exhibit the symptoms of a hard marriage.
Let us list out the symptoms of a hard marriage:

• Constant daily misunderstanding due chronic lack of personal differences
• Consistent Sexless marriage due to revenge or spousal punishment
• Deliberate emotional unavailability due to addiction to work, purpose, business etc
• Blaming one person for all the issues in the marriage
• Regular infidelity and affairs with side sick and aide horses
• Acting as a secret agent and suspicion of your spouse due to insecurities
• Holier thou attitudes and religious fanatism
• Ex and in-laws' domination and control of significant affairs of the marriage
• Unforgiveness manifesting in resentment, stonewalling and silent treatment
• Spousal aggressiveness and domestic violence
• Spousal disagreement on major aspects of the marriage leads to separate living and agendas
• Prayerlessness and no spiritual connection among the couples
• Lack of support and hindering each other growth
• Competition and policing of each spouse due to lack of trust
• Avoiding stepping on each other's toes and hence, bottling up hurts and pain inside
• Using divorce and separation as a weapon to win arguments
• When you love and spend more time with other women outside your marriage or submit to another man willingly than to your spouse, then your marriage is hard.
