In this conversation, Britt talks with Maria Minnis. The two discuss the practice of magic, holographic thinking, and their personal approach to utilizing tarot as a tool for growth. Maria talks about different ways to bring magic and meaning into daily life and shares her project anti-racism with the tarot.

A bit about the High Priestess...

Time spent with the Magician nourishes a foundation of individuality. With this clear sense of self, we are now ready to dive into the deeper realms of wisdom with Key number 2- The High Priestess. With the Magician, we clarified a vessel from which we create, take action, and do. From this outward flowing energy, we now turn our attention inward. The High Priestess teaches us, as unique individuals, to listen for the wisdom of the numinous, to receive from within, and to simply be. 

When the High Priestess appears in a reading, you are being invited to the inner realms of intuition. She invites you into the world of dreams, symbols, and synchronicities. She asks you to get lost in these unconscious places. Find something that brings you to a reflective place and then practice it. Show up to it. She is inviting you in.

A bit about the Magician

With the energy of the Fool under our wings, we move to Key number 1- the Magician. While the Fool holds the soul’s urge to expand, it is the Magician who channels this energy and manifests our deepest desires in the material world. In the classic Smith Rider Waite tarot deck, it is believed that the figures seen in the Fool and the Magician cards are the same individual captured at different moments in life- one the wide-eyed dreamer imagining what is possible, the other a ready creator with clear direction. 

Similar to the Fool this card is a call to presence. When you pull the Magician in a reading consider where you are placing your attention. Where are you spending your energy? What is it you are creating in your life? Rather than focus on what you lack or what you desire, get radically honest about what you do have. Notice, name, and celebrate what you are creating.

A bit about the Fool

We begin the journey of the Major Arcana with the archetype of the Fool. Artistic renderings of the Fool usually depict a figure in full stride near the edge of a cliff. Their eyes are to the sky, their energy light, unfazed by the danger of their surroundings. The Wild Unknown Tarot Deck (picture above) shows a baby chick with one foot off the branch that has been holding them steady until this point. Will they fly or will they fall? No one knows, not even the Fool. But the Fool is not concerned with knowing. The Fool does not worry if or when they might fall because they know that a life well-lived is full of ups and downs, highs and lows, wins and losses. This is the stuff of our aliveness. The Fool knows that the only truly foolish choice would be to never try for fear of falling.

When you pull this card, you are being reminded that it is never too late to begin anew and go for what you most deeply desire in life. The Fool implies a universal and innate human longing to know your full aliveness. When you pull this card you are being asked to consider how you might release the need for certainty and awaken a sense of wonder.

In this episode, Britt discusses the suits that make up the tarot deck as a reflection of the natural elements.  From the lens of nature-based spirituality, we are made up of the natural elements, and the tarot- as artistic mirrors of the human experience- is also made up of these elements.  Air rules swords, fire rules wands, water rules cups, earth rules pentacles, and ether rules the major arcana.

She introduces the Tarot as the inspiration for these conversations and invites listeners to tune into their unique wisdom by listening softly from a place of intuition. Britt also defines her practice of nature-based spirituality as the lens through which she comes to these teachings.
