Why do we need the covenant of works?

We need the covenant of works because it shows us what Christ came to fulfill.

Adam was placed under a command: do this and live.

But Adam fell.

And in Adam, we fell.

The gospel is that Christ came as the last Adam.

Where Adam disobeyed, Christ obeyed.

Where Adam failed, Christ stood.

Where Adam brought death, Christ brings life.

The covenant of works does not send the believer back to Adam.

It sends us forward to Christ, and we get the obedience of Another.

That’s Marrow theology, practically applied.

What did God require of Adam in the garden? What does “do this and live” mean? And why does the Covenant of Works matter for understanding grace, Christ, and the gospel?

Which Law Are We Talking About? | Marrowcast Episode 2

When Christians talk about “the law,” we are not always talking about the same thing.
