Spanish Polyphony and Latin American Folk Songs of the Renaissance and Baroque
Crescendo Vocal Ensemble with Soprano and Baroque Guitarist Salome Sandoval, and Latin American and Baroque Period Instruments, directed by Christine Gevert
Continuing the tradition of an Early Music Holiday Concert the week after Christmas, this year Crescendo offers a festive concert with villancicos and polyphonic Renaissance compositions from the Iberian and Latin American countries. The villancico was a common poetic and musical form of the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America, popular from the late 15th to 18th centuries. Spain had a rich tradition of highly developed polyphonic music. Works by Guerrero, Morales, Araujo, Enzina and Torrejón y Velasco.
