Crimes are about content and context as well. Lawrence and Kris break down the legalities of crimes, when you are able to take action on your behalf and when you are not legally able – according to the state.  It can get a little dicey, and a hair or two gets split as well. However, that is the way the laws are written and since we are a society of laws we follow the law.  Plus we drop into two true stories of loss of life and how it appears the suspects got away with the crime.

Favorite fight scenes in movies, why they work and why they don’t work. We make an analysis from a technical standpoint and a movie viewpoint. We span some forty years of fights in cinema as well and suspended disbelief in of all things cartoons. Self-Defense and home defense set in an unfavorable environment. Lawrence and Kris break down the security systems they have at their homes, you may want to take note or two if you are reviewing your home security.  Then the reasons for the home fortress.  The abject failure of the city of Seattle, and the cruelty that ensues. Then full on insanity as the latest policy that will result in  – well disaster, is unveiled. We finish with a few cautions and some suggestions on what you can do in your community as you look to your future.

What is it you do differently than the way you were taught the martial arts?  Is it productive?  And what are the goals of the different training?  Then we take on what we do differently in life.  You know those odd things that make you unique – not harmful, but beneficial. We also touch on, keeping the same weight, junk food, cold showers, and heart rate monitors.

What are the day one things that you should do, or observe in a new martial arts school? If you wanted to do what we do, teach martial arts. What should you know, what is the business side of it and what is the martial arts side of the equation? What is the difference between customer service and customer…well you will have to listen for that little jewel.

“Are you doing what you want to do?” The question was pretty direct, but of course, we took it in a different direction after a quick review we broke the question into two segments, our professional life and our martial arts life. A little history was involved, not the 1066 Battle of Hastings type of history, but our personal history as well of a few revelations that we discovered while writing.

The idea of bringing on another martial artist as an employee at your school could be a problem…or a wild blessing it all depends on your analysis and assessments of qualities of the person you are going to pay.  Or it might be a poor assessment of the wrong qualities. Kris eavesdrops on a job interview, in a public place and Lawrance lays down a scathing review of a poor process executed horribly.

Not like Black Belt just happens as the title of this podcast may indicate. The episode is not about the journey to black belt but the actual test experience. What was the process, where was your head at during the examination? (a few embarrassing moments actually)  Lawrence and Kris not only hit on what happened to them but what they do for examinations these days. How the moment is constructed and executed.
