Recently, at a conference at the offices of the Italian Ministry for Health, EU scientists concluded that some of the low and no-calorie sweeteners, such as aspartame, which are currently on the market, are "safe for consumption". Meanwhile, there are still concerns over whether or not such products are safe for pregnant women. In the USA, there are countless print, TV and radio ads for a myriad of low-calorie or reduced calorie products that are sweetened with artificial sweeteners as an option to battle obesity as well as provide a tastier option for those seeking weight loss. Although these artificial sweeteners have been approved by the FDA, there are many people who are strongly opposed to the use of these chemicals in so many food items as well as some of the over the counter medications. In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to Mary Nash Stoddard, founder: of the Aspartame Consumer Safety Network and Pilot Hotline to talk about this controversial sweetener.
