When we pray, "Our Father, who art in heaven...." it is usually titled "THE LORD'S PRAYER". However, the Lord shared this in response to his disciples request, "Lord teach us how to pray." It may more accurately be titled, "THE DISCIPLES PRAYER", because it's the kind of prayer every disciple of Jesus should learn to pray.

When Jesus assumed his disciples would fast in Matthew chapter 6, it wasn't for appearances sake. It was for the same reason God's people have fasted and prayed throughout history - for breakthroughs.

Scripture is full of examples of God's people breaking through impossible situations with corporate prayer and fasting. Some issues need natural solutions (medical, diet, financial, practical) but there are some things that won't change unless God's people pray...and fast. Pastor Aaron calls Marysville New Life to join him in 21 Days of Breakthrough May 12-June 1.

Leadership matters. Healthy leaders leave a ripple of righteousness for many generations. Unhealthy leaders scatter sheep and leave scars that last for a lifetime. In chapter 5, Peter writes as a fellow shepherd to leaders in the church, urging them to lead with a healthy motivation.

The rewards of suffering for righteousness - not a popular American theme - but without question a central theme of the gospel. There is great growth and even glory that far outweigh the momentary struggles in this life for those whose life are hidden in Christ.

In chapter 3, Peter continues his challenge to live in our identity in Jesus, with a focus on living rightly within marriage and the church community.
